Why do people try to say TLOU has shallow gameplay?

I made this thread on Gaf and that shyt got locked cuz people started getting reckless but anyway..

It's something that really annoys me to read because out of all the third person shooters I've played this last generation almost all of them are pretty much the same thing.
Take for example Gears of War 3 where you have cover system,GREAT shooting and a wide array of weapons to choose from with differences among them and that's it in a nutshell. Not knocking the game in any way, you can check my GT as I've played Geow3 extensively.

The Last of Us has:a cover system, solid shooting mechanics with weapon sway that can be upgraded, weapon upgrades, general upgrades, stealth, close quarters combat, resource management, and interactive environments that adds some variation to the combat. not to mention the AI is pretty damn good. So what is exactly shallow about all of this?

there's almost always a moment in the game where encounters requires me to think about it to the point where I'm almost afraid to go in trying to rambo my way through the game. the satisfaction of clearing out a room of infected or humans brutally is second to none.
I mean can someone expound on this blasphemy I keep hearing mostly on the internet?

It's the same thing critics say about PS3-era Naughty Dog games in general... too much cinematics and not good enough gameplay.

I don't understand the criticism either, but nikkas are talking like we're playing Heavy Rain or something. It's like they played Uncharted 3 and went into 30 minutes of the Last of Us thinking it was going to be the same thing.

Because it does.

It's basically just corridors(although beautifully rendered to give a sense of openness) and arenas.

Walk down the halway, pick up some supplies, get to the arena kill all the enemies, watch a cutscene, rinse and repeat.

Even as shallow as you THINK it is, it is still better than any exclusive game released on the xbox 360 or xbox one.

The gameplay is dope because the AI never acts the same. I decided to bum rush one dude into a wall and his homie tried to shoot at me but Ellie jumped out of nowhere on dude's back and said "no you don't" then fukked up his shot :damn::banderas: so beautiful

If you can't post in this thread without resorting to being facetitious and disingenuous then :camby:.

That's exactly what the game consists of and you know it. Naughty dog does an excellent job of masking it through sky high production values/graphics/story, but what I described is exactly the game consists of. It's how all cinematic games are. Naughty dog is the best at it

I mentioned it because its hilarious how you bash TLOU, but perfectly accept the shyttyness that is Ryse.

:stopitslime: still with this shyt huh. I have not bashed TLOU. And what I said is that Ryse is trying to be like uncharted/TLOU for the hack n slash genre. And I thought the people who like games like uncharted/TLOU should at least give Ryse a try.

I already know you're trying to lure me into a debate of "I'm right and you know it" as fallacious as that sounds so you can miss me with that.
