White collar jobs are hard to get if you aren't a cac. :hhh: I have a bachelors degree but never worked a white collar office job in my life. I don't have any tats. I grew up in the 90's when even killers didn't have tats. :birdman: I don't have a long rap sheet or any felonies. I can pass a drug test because I quit smoking weed and haven't even had a drink in almost three years. I went on a lot of job interviews for white collar jobs when I graduated from college back in 09-10', but the stuffy passive aggressive closet racist cacs basically laughed in my face. Not to mention most "entry level" office jobs want 2-5 years experience. :why:I went to school for graphic design. But blue collar jobs actually are willing to train you these days. White collar jobs won't train you for shyt. :mindblown:This is key. They want a made man, preferably a cac'd out Stabucks sipping MLB watching Black music black people don't listen to anymore white man. :leostare:

And it seems most white collar environments are white as fukk. And it seems you have to really know and abide by white culture to pass there. Like you can't break a key tenant of white culture... like wearing a jersey, fitted cap or snapback of a team "you're not a fan of". Like when is the last time you met a breh who actually watched baseball or fukking hockey? :skip: You can't express contempt for white racism in a white ass white collar environment. :beli:You can't be like Dave Chappelle barking Wu Tang in a threatening manner at these Office Space crackers saying they couldn't walk around your way in the era you grew up in. I'm also guessing that black men in the white collar world are more likely to be gay because gay black men are seen as much less threatening to cacs.

But all of this is theoretical for me because I always end up in blue collar jobs that are black majority. :pachaha:And not all blue collar jobs are low paying or dead end. :ufdup:But I would like to work in an air conditioned office and sit all day for once. Maybe prove to my folks that going to college wasn't a waste of time or money for me. But college didn't change me into a bougiefied sellout like it was supposed to, I guess. So am I wrong that you have to have an understanding of mayo culture to be a part of the white collar world? :ld:

So am I wrong that you have to have an understanding of mayo culture to be a part of the white collar world?

Obtaining a white collar job is symbolic of accepting mainstream middle/upper middle class ideas of living which includes conformity, blandness, being “safe” and not rocking the boat among others things.

Part of the problem is that you think that you can be your jersey, timbs, and snapback urban self in an environment that sees that as foreign, inferior, and not a “good fit”.

To be successful as a black man in corporate white collar America will require conformity to those ideas. There is a certain amount of divorcing of self that needs to be done to be a “proper fit”.

The question you have to ask yourself is which type of black man are you? Are you the type of black man that is ambitious enough to do whatever it takes, even if it means divesting parts of yourself to conform to middle/upper middle class ideas in order to be successful within white collar America? Or are you the type to have “principles” and have the need to always be able to express your urban version of blackness?

There are some blacks that can juggle both but you appear to not be one of them so you have to make a choice. You can be successful with either path you choose, however, the latter will be ten times as challenging.

Here’s a secret though: most folks that end up being successful are chameleons.

Exactly as once you enter the corporate workforce you have to dilute your identity and mute your ideas and take on the politics of your employer.
You have to take shyt on the chin and still be an overachiever as blackness and mediocrity is not accepted. Its is a mind fukk as at some point your colleagues will try to act down in the most passive way possible.
Your white colleagues can do their work on autopilot but you will always have to be positioned on the drivers seat.

Most white collar jobs are a result of hookups. More white men are in positions to hook people up, and obviously, they are hooking up their white friends. You also have white men who see themselves in other white male applicants. They will never look at one of us, and think, “Wow, Tyrone reminds me of myself at that age.”

I have kind of a different take.

The job market is pretty packed right now. Searching for job no longer means you're largely competing against other unemployed (or partially employed) people anymore. You're now also competing with gainfully employed millennials (and gen x'ers) who are very experienced and qualified in their field but just bored with their current jobs and "looking for something new".

OTH, entry level jobs have been absolutely insane with their requirements and demands ever since the recession. The massive influx of degreed job-seekers really changed the game (for the worse). Jobs I had in my very early 20s (like working QA for a major car company) could NEVER be had now without at minimum a bachelors and at least 3yrs experience.

That being said, I know plenty of black men (and women) working white collar jobs but the truth is, most of them had some sort connect beforehand either via old employees, connected referrals (parents, siblings or friends, whatever) who were familiar with the company, etc. And tbh this is true for whites and non-blacks as well.

In this new culture of pretty much everyone having the ability to apply for ANY job anywhere, (thanks to the internet) companies are going old school and relying more so on word-of-mouth and networking than anything else. If you don't know people, you don't get job; it's that simple.

I don't know where you Niklas live but white collar jobs in my area are not synonymous with cac environment, my last Job had more blacks and they were just as much bytchass Niklas as the cacs.

They expected a lot of unrealistic bullshyt, and had way more attitude and mouthy ways than cacs. Basically black folks who been working a government/hospital job 10+ years and felt they made it in life.

Everything ain't cac this or cac that. There are definitely a lot of stupid as black managers or coworkers who only lookout for each other if you are in their click or gossip.

They also are known to talk crazy to fellow black colleagues knowing Damm well they won't with a cac for fear of being reported or sued. And I'm not talking about blacks who act white. I'm talking about blacks who live in black areas but haven't finished high school mentality.

At this point in my career I don't give a fukk if you a cac or black -person long as you're beneficial to my career.
