lets be real, the game is fine the way it is..but purely hypothetical.

lets say the court was expanded and the NBA commissioner demanded teams start 6 players. and there was to be a new position created, what do you think could work??

Ive actually had this idea for a while now, a postion called the Defensive forward. This guy is a wing player that is allowed to hand check and his fouls dont count against the penalty and he's allowed 8 instead of 6 fouls. It would encourage physical/entertaining defense. Ideally, you would use this guy to check the best player on the other team. It could even work 5 vs. 5 ..but

picture this

PG - Steph Curry
SG - Klay Thomspon
SF - Harrison Barnes
DF - Andre Iquodala
PF Draymond Green
C - Andrew Bogut

ok I had another one

the SLAHING FORWARD

this guy. He is only allowed to shoot in and immediately around the paint. This area would be signalized with court paint. If the slahser does happen to shoot and make it beyond the restricted area, a point is subtracted from the team. The slasher is allowed to run out of bounds and would ideally be a wing player. The purpose of the SLASHING FORWARD would be to create easy high % buckets by allowing the player to go anywhere on the court...protoypes would be Aaron Gordon, Demarr Derozan, etc..

THREAD HAD POTENTIAL, UNTIL U SUGGESTED 6 ON 6.....IN THE CURRENT NBA, THERE REALLY IS NO POINT GUARD OR CENTER IN THE TRADITIONAL SENSE. A LOT OF TIMES, THE PLAYER PENCILED IN AS THE SMALL FORWARD OR SHOOTING GUARD BRINGS THE BALL UP AND BECOMES THE PRIMARY DISTRIBUTOR (LEBRON JAMES, ANDRE IGUODALA) AND THE CENTER PLAYS THE SAME POSITION AS A POWER FORWARD (DRAYMOND GREEN, JOSH SMITH), TO THE POINT WHERE CENTERS AND POWER FORWARDS ARE NOW INTERCHANGEABLE.....................

SO IF WE WERE TO RE-NAME THE POSITIONS, IT WOULD LOOK SOMETHING LIKE THIS

PRIMARY GUARD: LEBRON JAMES
OFFGUARD 1: KYRIE IRVING
OFFGUARD 2: IMAN SHUMPERT
LOW POST 1: KEVIN LOVE
LOW POST 2 TRISTAN THOMPSON

THE DAYS OF A TRADITIONAL PG, SG, SF, PF, C LINE-UP ARE LONG GONE.
