96-2000 for me.....though i came in the middle of that era, getting into 'Vol. 2' in 98, about 13 years old....I think with a almost 20 year hindsight, that was my personal favorite era of Jay, he lost a lot after that, though he has undeniable great work post 2000.

i say vol 3/dynasty was when he was at his peak as a rapper. Just imagine vol3/dynasty jay z over blueprint production, would have been the GOAT album :banderas:

So many to choose from but I say BP2/TBA era.

BP2 is the #3 2x album OAT & features Hov's best lyrical performance of the trilogy & one of his best displays of bars ever, plus his Gawd MC flow was almost @ the pinnacle of perfection.

S. Carter Collection is the GOAT mixtape & again featured him spitting @ an insanely high level of godlike proportions & flowing his hump off in a way no MC in history could dream of.

Culminated in the GOAT rap album (TBA) with the GOAT @ the absolute peak of his powers in terms of his flows, bars & content all being on an gawdly level that will never come close to being reached again. Best MCing performance of all time & a classic that birthed the GOAT rap show (MSG) & documentary (Fade To Black).

Plus all them gawdly features he was doing at the time including blessing Bey, Cam, the Roc, etc. with the GOAT stimulus package.

If he never rapped another bar after that run he'd still be the GOAT, but thank god he choose to come back & add to his Gawd MC legacy.

HM to the WTT era.

BP3 was a good album (3/5), but it was easily his weakest lyrical performance ever, & even nikkaz he normally knocked shyt out the park with like Ye & Timbo didn't come through for him, so for the first time since KC nikkaz had concerns about the GOAT possibly slipping.

That amazing post-BP3 feature run leading up to WTT where he annilated everything in sight on Monster, So Appalled, Power Remix, Light Up, Shiny Suit Theory, etc. showed he was still the top lyricist in the game with the GOAT flow, & also foreshadowed his brilliance on WTT.

WTT is tied with AG as his best post-TBA performance & displayed some of his illest rhymes & flows. They contributed to the GOAT collab album that spawned the GOAT tour, & he added a cherry on top of that GOATness by bodying Zzz Cole aka Mos Not Def with that disgustingly dope verse on Mr Nice Watch.

Volume1 to Hard Knock Life Jay was the best. Dude just floated over everything those years and was killing the streets.

Obviously RD/Vol 1

Although he was probably at his hardest around 98.. Blackout, Pregame, A Week ago etc

The flow was :blessed: around BP2.. He was just floating over everything.. Hovi Baby, 1,2 Y'all, Pump it Up freestyle, etc.
