The She's All That thread got me thinking about 1999 and how in some circles its considered the greatest year in film ever..I've also heard some people say 1994, 2007, some say 1982, and some say throw a dart at any year during the 70s and that's the greatest year in film so I wanted to know what the film room believes is the greatest year ever in movies and why. I'm stuck between 99 and 2007 right now but a strong strong case could be made for 77

1994 is probably my pick, and 1984 is great too (Gremlins, Amadeus, Ghostbusters, Beverly Hills Cop, The Terminator, Spinal Tap)

But Ninotchka, Gone With The Wind, Stagecoach, Mr Smith Goes To Washington and The Wizard of Oz all came out in 1939....so that is my "film snob" pick :heh:

Why so breh?
as far as anticipation for films, I agree its up there TBH.....but from years in which Ive actually seen movies, I loved 94 as far as quality of movies, but 99 for straight nostalgia

edit:forgot about all that piff from 84....another great year.

That Top 10 though :dead:

I haven't seen the HP film, but among the rest, Ratatouille is the only good film on the list.

Looking back at 2007.....we also got Gone Baby Gone, Charlie Wilson's War and Atonement....which are three personal favorites. Plus Knocked Up, The Counterfeiters, The Lookout....shyt, that's a great fukking year

2007 might be a contender :patrice:

Yeah 2007 is up there which is why I'm stuck between that and 99...and that Harry Potter is one of the best in the series and probably the most character driven of the whole series..

Hot Fuzz
Knocked up
Simpsons movie
Bourne Ultimatum
Superbad
Into the Wild
Juno
Sweeney Todd (which I love)
The Orphanage
Michael Clayton

1999 is probably the DEEPEST year

but 94 had higher highs..but it was very top heavy

2010 was very solid

2002 had some good ones as well but might not be as solid as say 2007, though 02 is a personal favorite..very good summer season up there with last years as well as some good dramas (catchmme if you can , pianist, city of god, road to perdition , insomnia etc)

Since I'm going to be mad lazy, fill me in on 02 cause nothing is coming to mind off the top of my head although I know there's piff

I think I'll agree with you on 99 being the deepest. I mean shyt just kept coming and coming and coming and it was a lot of new directors making their stamp on the industry and they continue to thrive today.

I was thinking of 2010 too
