The title previously held by Danny Garcia, who vacated to try his luck and further his career in the Welterweight division. Lucas Matthysse fell short in his first world title bid in a bruising fight that ended in a close but competitive loss to Garcia. Unfortunately he also suffered an orbital bone injury which put him on the shelf for quite some time. Since that fight and coming back from that injury he has won 3 straight fights, one which is a FOTY for 2014 (vs Molina) and another which is a FOTY Candidate for 2015 (vs Ruslan). Now Lucas sets sight on finally becoming champion he was meant to be with one fighter standing in his way.
Viktor Postol is a largely unknown fighter who has flown under the radar at 140 while plying his trade in his home country of Ukraine with notable victories over Demarcus Corley and Hank Lundy. He made his American debut on HBO last year on the Alvardo-JMM card and stopped Selcuk Aydin, giving him his KO defeat. He then went on to fight in one of the undercards for PBC. Now he's on the big stage looking to not only keep his undefeated record, but to add himself to the list of world champions that have come from Ukraine like currently Heavyweight Champion Wladimir Klitschko and Featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko.
