Russian government officials had contacts with members of Donald Trump’s campaign team, a senior Russian diplomat said Thursday, in a report that could reopen scrutiny over the Kremlin’s role in the president-elect’s bitter race against Hillary Clinton.

Facing questions about his ties to Moscow because of his statements in favor of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump repeatedly denied having any contact with the Russian government.

But Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, in an interview with the state-run Interfax news agency, said that "there were contacts" with the Trump team.

"Obviously, we know most of the people from his entourage,” Rybakov said. “Those people have always been in the limelight in the United States and have occupied high-ranking positions. I cannot say that all of them but quite a few have been staying in touch with Russian representatives.”

"We have just begun to consider ways of building dialogue with the future Donald Trump administration and channels we will be using for those purposes," Ryabkov said.

Obama administration officials have blamed Russian hackers, possibly with high-level intelligence links, for infiltrating the email account of Clinton’s campaign chief, John Podesta. The emails were then disclosed by Wikileaks in an effort that Clinton supports claim was intended to damage her White House bid.

Would the Russians' supposed contacts with Trump's campaign mean anything if a candidate that ran for President didn't have overwhelming negative evidence that led to her credibility being questioned?

There's nothing wrong with this given how pivotal Russia will be these next couple of years, and also there aren't any clear links between Trump and Russia other than failed business ventures there which he's never denied (he's been raving about Moscow and starting a business there since chapter 1 of his The Art of the Deal book, back when Putin was a replaceable cog working for the KGB).

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that if the Clinton campaign had spent half the time they spent talking about trump being a Russian plant instead talking about economic policy, they'd have won. Or if all that money that went to this utterly useless drivel had went to getting money on the ground in philly and Detroit and Milwaukee, we wouldn't be looking at the hellscape we are now.

Nap, in all earnestness, you are so fukking stupid and out of touch and the fact that you became arguably the biggest Clinton Stan on here is a 100% perfect representation of why she lost, and why Jeb bush and Marco Rubio and Lindsey graham and ted Cruz lost.

No one cares about Russian conspiracies. No one cares about ousting Assad. No one cares about democracy in Iran. Virtually no one even cares about protecting Israel. You and your ideological bedfellows had to invent this Russian interference to explain away why trump could totally ignore these things and defeat the Sunday talk show right in the primaries. And now you idiots have absolutely no explanation for why this happened past more reheated redbaiting garbage.

Of course already we see neocons prostrating and looking for jobs. You and Michael Weiss will be penning opeds in the daily beast about why it's vital to support trump's nuke isis plan in a year or less.
