I always peep these reaction videos to freestyles but randomly stumbled on ones where they’re reacting to classic tracks for the first time. This dude’s reaction to Nas “The Message” is mad funny but interesting to see how the younger generation hears golden era shyt for the first time

this...some of the reaction vids clearly fake (aint the first time he heard the songs)

I was kayfabing it but when he didn't jump out of his chair after puns little Italy diddly line, I knew it was fake. My mind still gets blown hearing it and I've heard it millions of times over the last 20 years :russ:

Hard to believe there are people that have never heard some of these songs

Not really. Why would an 18 year old be listening to some shyt from 1994? I mean, unless they were doing a reaction.

And nah....I don't think this is fake. He admits his ears aren't trained to catch a lot of bars or things that would make us go :krs: back in the day because nobody is really rapping like this right now.

Which is a common observation among young people, really.

Like they’re blown away at the complexity of it or some shyt?

Nothing that extreme but yeah.

Let's put it like this....Wu-Tang went 4x plat with "Triumph"....it's 6-7 minutes of lyrics with no hook. The fact that something like that could happen back then freaks a lot of them out. They don't know how to process it.

These are actually pretty dope. I know it sounds ridiculous to us that people, especially fans of the genre, would just now be listening to some of these tracks, but it makes sense. An 18 year old hip hop fan has an insane amount of music at their fingertips at any given time. So forget about not having grown up when these records dropped; they have a hard time listening to all the shyt that's dropping right now. Without an older family member to point them in the direction of some of these classics, it's more than understandable they would never have heard of them. We grew up with 56k dial-up where it took hours to download a song. If your family didn't have old records or tapes of the classics, you weren't hearing them outside of a segment on the radio playing the old stuff. With that said, I do find it hard to believe when he says he's never even heard of the existence of some of these artists, though.

I second the feeling about his response to the Little Italy line, though. I still remember the first time I heard that shyt:damn::damn::damn:

I don't find it hard to believe he hasn't heard of the specific artists he mentioned, though. Mobb Deep wasn't an A-tier group in the 90's.

Neither was Tribe, really. They were platinum selling and obviously well known but it's not like they were doing Death Row numbers. Or even Wu numbers.

Now, if he said he'd never heard of NWA or Pac or BIG or BONE....then yeah, shyt would be weird.

What's crazy is I been following this guy's channel and didn't even see this thread until like an hour ago. His earlier content was basically just "react to this hit song, react to this trailer" but he did a few "react to classic hip-hop" videos and his numbers blew up over night. So he's done a ton of them in the last month or so.
