-Mic work/promos -

-Personality/gimmicks

The 2 above are all in the same with him...its hard to believe papa shango and the godfather both come from the same man...papa shango for any kid in the early 90s status was  status...shyt rivaled old school heel undertaker at times...he was on some next shyt with the voodoo stuff...he looked typed crazy and talked it too..he was a good promo...but then when it ran its course dude was a like a generic big man for years...that kama supreme fighting machine/nod kama mustafa...shyt had no kind of heat behind it (matter of fact NOD held a lot of wrestlers back gimmick wise..all of them got bigger and more memorable after that shyt :patrice:..except clarence mason and pg-13 :bryan:)...and ill be damned if i remember any promos much less anything he actually said..the only program he ran during that time that was somewhat memorable was melting down taker's urn haha..attitude era comes in and he takes the pimp gimmick farther than anyone else even (lowkey was vexed because 2 cold scorpio had that shyt first but nothing came of it)...ho train..the use of hoes on national tv..pimpin...dancing with hoes on tv...pimp drop as a finisher name...and this nikka was over like rover..the fukking pops he used to get man..at least top 5 in the WWE at its peak...memorable catchphrases and promos esp when wrestlers would take the hoes rather than wrestle :bryan:..the right to censor goodfather...ehhh wasnt going to last even though i understood vince's intent behind it..fukk l. brent bozell :birdman:..anyways ill give him a 10 for having 2 classic and distinct gimmicks in 2 different eras of wrestling

-Ring work (along with some of your favorite matches/feuds) - he was a good example of me caring more for his matches due to having a good gimmick...he seemed better in the ring to me when the gimmick he had was over...papa shango or godfather..they werent classics but they had me involved in the match...i think the best match he had as papa shango that i can remember was against bret hart..as kama he was dull to me thus not caring about his matches....shyt i remember even a prime shawn michaels could barely get an average match out of him at one of the king of the rings..ad godfather all of sudden he seemed watchable to me..a bright spot on the undercard...hell man even got a IC title run out of it..not any notable once but very watchable matches...he was decent in the ring at best...was no mat technician or above average big man...does have the most vicious shoulderbreaker ive seen though...give him a 6

-Overall rating (which doesn't have to be an average of the above scores)
His career was more gimmick driven than most and thats what made him memorable...which is the purpose of pro wrestling lol...i dont think his gimmick would ever fly ever again in the WWE due to it being a publicly traded company and all...i think 6 is a good score for him overall

As a kid I use to think he was really a PIMP because I read on the internet he was running a strip club or something

Same with Goldust and Val Venus with movies

Can't say he had any memorable matches to me, but the impact. :wow:

Had my whole elementary calling broads hoes, had king and Jr saying hoe oh so casually, the nikka made it cool to be a hoe.

High 6. He managed to get over two very different gimmicks in two very different eras, which is no small feat. To go from the voodoo master Papa Shango to colorful pimp Godfather is such an extreme yet he made both work. Part of why he was able to was because he absolutely threw himself into the roles and embraced them, promo wise, look and act wise, and to me maybe the most important way, in ring wise. You’ll see it a lot, I think more noticeably with modern guys, is that they’ll portray a gimmick or look or character but not wrestle in a way that fits into that persona. That wasn’t how Charles Wright worked. Even as Kama, which was my least favorite persona of his, he wrestled like his gimmick, with strikes and a move set you’d expect from a pseudo MMA fighter in 95.

I’d go higher but his lack of memorable matches is why I stopped at 6. As is, I think he was a great character wrestler who managed to master the art of reinvention

A very favorable 7. I have nothing but fond memories of Godfather regardless of the character he played. Papa Shango and Godfather were clearly his best characters, and as Godfather, he was one of the most over characters of a GOAT era in wrestling. Don't think he has any classic matches, was a pretty good talker even though he never had a ton of lengthy promos, had various cool themes, and was a decent wrestler, but you kinda felt like later on in his career, his gimmick limited what he even had to do in the ring. Already mentioned how much I loved his character evolution in the Nation in the Stable evolution thread. Liked the change to the Goodfather, as it made perfect sense, and RTC had an insane amount of heat, but changing from Godfather to Goodfather, then trying to go back to Godfather was basically the finish line of him. Cause of censoring later, he was never as over as he used to be. The "escort service", in which they had him bringing some of the most :hhh: women ringside. Chicks were ugly as fukk. I knew he was finished then. Thought there could have been something when he turned heel again denying the fans hoes, and being more aggressive. I felt like that had some legs, but he was a Jakked/Metal mainstay during that time. Vince Russo or Chris Kreski could have done something with that character, not Stephanie. Still, loved Wright's character, as he was a dude that proved you could be over as shyt without winning many titles.
