I seen Hot Stuff Eddie Gilbert wrestle and to me he was a solid mid-top tier wrestler, had success tag teaming with Tommy Rich. Gilbert was successful In the Memphis territories, had a heated rivalry with Jerry Lawler.

In the UWF created a staple called Hot Stuff International which had a Young Sting, Ultimate Warrior and Rick Steiner.

He was AWA Southern Heavyweight and Tag Team Champion

NWA United States Tag Team Champion with Rick Steiner

a perfect ten.

if allowed to be great, he could have booked and performed on hof levels.
as good a psychology worker as there was, more innovative that hbk basically is hot stuff rehashed with lower workrate.
one of the best minds in the business ever.
one of the most innovative finishers for the time that was ahead of its time and was the precursor to the goat draw in wrasslin history's finish as well.

great great unheralded performer all time.

I always thought Tommy Rich was a better in ring performer, Tommy Rich was given the keys he was supposed to be the next big thing, and he dropped the ball.

But Eddie Gilbert had a great wrestling mind

Tommy rich would never really deliver when given the keys in the same way.
plus real talk, I always felt rich was more over by the semantics of what he presented in his gimmick.
than as a worker when put in a large drawing program.

"Hot Stuff" Eddie Gilbert :banderas:

-Mic work/promos: 7.

-Personality/gimmicks: 8. Great heel.

-Ring work (along with some of your favorite matches/feuds): 6, I guess. Maybe 7?

Greatest feud with have to be with Jerry Lawler. They worked so well together because they were a lot of alike. Gilbert was like a sleazier version of Lawler. They played off each other so well because they were very similar. They feuded on/off over the years.

I liked the brief feud he had with the Patriot (in GWF). I'd be hard-pressed to remember a great Eddie Gilbert match (I'm sure he has a few during his NWA run and a couple fun ones with Lawler), but I'll always remember him running down Lawler with a car in USWA and always throwing fireballs at people.

-Overall rating (which doesn't have to be an average of the above scores): 7. Not an ALL-TIME GREAT because he left us so soon, but still a southern rasslin/hardcore legend, IMO. Definitely one of the top guys I think of when I think about USWA and GWF, which I remember watching a lot of both on ESPN in the early '90s. I think if he had a bigger build he would've been a much bigger deal in either NWA, ECW or WWF.
