With a scale of 1-10 how would you rate Rick Martel in these categories:

-Mic work/promos

-Personality/gimmicks

-Ring work (along with some of your favorite matches/feuds)

-Overall rating (which doesn't have to be an average of the above scores

Mic work - 4
Personality - 6
Ring work - 8

Martel was low key an outstanding worker and was a good babyface, and heel. Nothing legendary but he was a great member of the roster.

In 97 I HATED how he made his way to wcw and BEAT BOOKER T FOR THE US TITLE, and dropped it to FIT FINLAY....rewatch it; that triangle rivalry was dope as fukk with great matches and some mutual respect shyt....it was fiya surprisingly on a rewatch.

Strike force and can am connection were both a notch below the rockers, hart foundation, and two below the steiners, road warriors, or demolition. They were good babyfaces, but as a kid i wasnt that interested.
Also as a kid i hated the model, but i was supposed to :manny: like the mountie he was great at his job.

Overall, i give Martel a 6, but thats because he was "above average", not as an insult. Strike force

Martel is underated talent but I wouldn't call him a legend. But he definitely a guy that can have a good match with anyone. His AWA run with bockwinkle and Hanson were good and his run as the model was exceptional. His random run in WCW was dope as well. Overall I give him 6.5/10 he should never be your lead heel or Babyface but definitely could fill the top 4 or 5 spot either way.

rick martel the babyface was cool; rick the model martel was an arrogant a$$hole who made you hate him..his heel promos > face promos..im not going to lie the arrogance angle with jake the snake made me go :damn:..the way they should jake getting blinded with the cologne was great....but not the match

rick got it done in the ring...i enjoyed the hell out of his work....he made that boston crab look vicious..hell i was surprised when he was in WCW in the late 90s that he could still go before that knee injury ended things

he was a solid 6 because he didnt really have that career defining match to say "thats a highlight"

He was good as a tag guy, was a great midcard heel, had that longest lasting at the time Royal Rumble record out of nowhere, blinded Jake the Snake, then as he was being phased out had a mini-resurgance and IC feud with Razor, then when I thought he was totally done I flip the channel on Nitro and see him winning the TV Title out of nowhere and looked good doing it.

Probably a 7/10.... but the Boston Crab was my finisher when I was a kid so I'm bumping him to 8/10 :heh:

-Mic work/promos: 6. Babyface promos weren't anything special, but he really embraced "The Model" character and improved his mic work then.

-Personality/gimmicks: 7. "The Model" was a fun mid-card gimmick.

-Ring work (along with some of your favorite matches/feuds): 7. From the WWF, his best matches/feuds include Tito Santana (I loved how, even years after the break-up, their history would still get mentioned or played out in the Rumble, with a match on Superstars, etc.), Jake the Snake, HBK, and Razor Ramon. From his '97-'98 WCW comeback (which I'm huge mark for): Booker T, Saturn, and Chris Benoit when they were all in the TV title picture.

-Overall rating (which doesn't have to be an average of the above scores: 7. Much like Kanyon, Martel was just a super solid mid-card guy and certainly a character I think of when I think about late 80s/early 90s WWF.

I explained in an earlier thread why I wouldn't be having threads for people like Michaels, Rock, Triple H, etc.
I wanted to focus on people who don't get talked about as much and don't have a cult like fanbase.
Yet you did one for angle. I would be very interested in seeing the haters rate HBK and the Rock

Angle doesn't have a cult fanbase with an unhealthy obsession. If the Punk thread got slightly sabotaged with bad ratings a Michaels/Rock/Triple H thread would be a disaster. I want these threads to be fun and informative with civil discussion.

Can't fault you for your opinion and I kinda agree but it would definitely be interesting to see how those guys (Michaels in particular) get rated if a major portion of TSC continues to give honest detailed reviews. :manny:

Maybe those guys you identified don't get factored into the final ranking because of the inherent bias.
