With a scale of 1-10 how would you rate Goldberg in these categories:

-Mic work/promos

-Personality/gimmicks

-Ring work (along with some of your favorite matches/feuds)

-Overall rating (which doesn't have to be an average of the above scores)

You can count on less than 10 fingers the number of wrestlers who at one point or another, were the biggest star in the sport during a boom period. Goldberg, in an era that included Hogan/NWO/Sting/Rock/Austin all in wrestling, still managed to become for a time, however short it may have been, the most over performer in the business.

That alone makes him an 7 in my book. He didn't have the longevity, wasn't great on the mic or in the ring, but he didn't need to be. He had a role he played to perfection.

Some good matches of his I like are the US title vs. Raven, that PPV match vs. DDP and a PPV match vs. Sid.

Goldberg: 7/10

One of the most difficult wrestlers in the sport to grade. Wrestled a total of 5 years, and 4 of the 5 were underwhelming compared to the initial run but there is no way it wouldn't have been.

This is tough but i'll say 7/10 as well

Edit: @mrken12 Are you asking if Goldberg is a legend tho? Cause he most def is

Great presence and look but bad promos. Not a "good" worker, but could be carried to a good match from time to time with the right opponent. Having said that, and despite at one time being arguably the most over wrestler in the world, he never lived up to his full potential, IMO. After the streak ended, his career isn't very noteworthy outside of clashing with Rock & Brock once going to WWE.

Mic work: 4
Personality/gimmick: 9
Ring work: 5

Overall: 7

If I had to use the scoring base on the categories, it would be:

-Mic work/promos - 2
-Personality/gimmicks - 10 based on that first year alone
-Ring work (along with some of your favorite matches/feuds) - 3 (He was carried in all matches that wasn't just a spear to jackhammer, but that DDP match is still one of my favorite matches til this day)
-Overall rating (which doesn't have to be an average of the above scores) - 6.5

His initial push was undeniable; from the entrance (one of the GOAT entrances and music in wrestling history) to the streak, was crazy. You knew he wasn't good in the ring and he barely talked, but that hype was real.

Mic work/promos = 5
-Nothing special. He had the type of mic skills you would expect from his type of character.

Personality/gimmicks = 10
-He carried himself as a badass and a destroyer and did a convincing job of it. The iconic entrance, the ominous haunting theme music, and his ability to connect with audiences just through his dominant in ring performances.

Ring work (along with some of your favorite matches/feuds) = 4
-Take off major points for messing up Bret Hart's career. :beli: Besides that, he was nothing special in the ring. His finishing moves the Spear and the Jackhammer looked devastating and always were captivating to witness. Like someone said earlier in the thread, he could be carried to a solid match.

Overall rating (which doesn't have to be an average of the above scores) = 7

-One of the biggest wrestlers in the 90s but was extremely limited in the ring. The fact that people immediately draw parallels to Goldberg whenever a new dominant wrestler has a winning streak shows the type of impact he left on the wrestling industry.

High 7.

You can't talk about the biggest boom period in wrestling history without talking about Goldberg.

Dude really popularized undefeated streaks in wrestling.

He's one of the few examples of having "it". Great presence. He isn't a stellar performer, but the few powerhouse moves he did, he was able to pull them off well. Arguably the best spear in the business.

Goldberg is in that list of wrestlers that I think had enough raw talent and athleticism that he should have been more than he was wrestling wise.

He was a legit homegrown WCW draw..a rarity past the mid 90s and was super over. Even when he went to the WWE

His gimmick was simple and straight to the point. He had the IT factor.

Ringwork...his matches were of the Ultimate Warrior & Sid variety. A long Goldberg match (more than 5 mins) were more miss than hit. He was also careless and sloppy at times. Ending Bret Hart's career was not cool. but could be carried to a good one. His match with Brock was one of the most disappointing matches that I ever watched. I was legit expecting something good :francis:

Wasn't a talker other than his one catchphrase which was money :pachaha:

He's hard to grade really because his stint was so short..but he was too fukking over for me to say he was average. I'd give him a very weak 6.

Off pure impact
Ring work - 2
mic work promos - 2
Personality/ Gimmick - 10 that intense don't fukk with me gimmick carried this man to the top of the fukking industry.

I don't remember a single promo, except yelling whose next. I can't even remember him doing anything great technically.

His intensity, look, and initial booking made this man a legend. People who weren't there will never understand, much like younger folks really will never understand the impact hogan, warrior, and macho had, but this man was equal to Stone Cold in popularity and maybe slightly over him for a minute during his initial run. Man was selling out the georgia dome and made monday night a must see. Hell him and Raven going at it when Raven tried to run through the crowd but was thrown back in the ring was epic as hell.

10 Legend in the game and legitimate crossover star.

If anyone hasn't seen the ladder match he had with Scott Hall in January 99 (Sould Out I think) check it out, it's excellent. Shame we never got Kurt ANgle vs Goldberg, that would have been brilliant. A contrast in styles, I imagine something close to Steiner / Goldberg, which was always a great match.

I would say 7.5-8 on account of just how over he was. I missed who said it, but I agree entirely. Wasn't great in the ring or on the mic, but he didn't need to be. Not everyone needs to wrestle clinics. Goldberg was best booked as a human wrecking ball. He was supposed to be a guy who smashed through his opponents. His booking in the 2003 elimination chamber minus the finish and the 2004 royal rumble are good examples I liked from his year on raw. 5-6 on the mic and in the ring. 9 for his gimmick. Vince has been trying to bite it since 1998. Absolutely loved his themes in both promotions. OP hit it spot on with how dark and ominous and epic they sounded, and I absolutely loved how he wouldn't use the spear as a finisher, but as the setup for the jackhammer (huge points for using that on Mark Henry and especially on big show). Wish he had more passion for the sport itself, but I can't hate on a guy treating a job like a job. Also wish his last match was better, but it is what it is. A huge star that's known well by even non wrestling fans who set a great template a lot of guys have tried to imitate. The one thing I wish we could change was seeing improvement in the ring beyond what he could do.

I'll always say Simpsons is the GOAT show even though their prime years that I watched are now a small percentage of their shelf life. That's how I feel about Goldberg. His career was short (1997 to 2004), but his 1998 was so big and it came during a time where everybody was watching wrestling.

Mic work: 6. He only said "Who's next", but that's all he needed to say so I'm not going to say that he can't talk, he just didn't really need to.

Personality/gimmicks: 10. As much as we all want back and forth five star classics, there's always room for one guy you want to just mow down the roster and dominate. And he fit that role perfect more than anyone.

Ring work (along with some of your favorite matches/feuds): 7. His match with DDP is my favorite WCW match of all time. The majority of his matches were short squashes, but they were great and entertaining squashes that had the crowd going nuts.

Overall rating (which doesn't have to be an average of the above scores): I'm going 9. Till this day, whenever a muscular big guy (e.g., Ryback) is introduced, the crowd chants "Goldberg". That's a lasting impression that a lot of wrestlers don't have.

Goldberg is definitely a legend but a 10 would be someone who covers all the aspects of a great wrestler and has the resume to back it up.
