-Mic work/promos

-Personality/gimmicks

-Ring work (along with some of your favorite matches/feuds)

-Overall rating (which doesn't have to be an average of the above scores)

This thread shows half of y'all some undercover cacs. Can't even discuss one of the GOAT black stars ??

7/10......Wasn't a great ring technician but knew how to entertain the crowd with what he knew worked. Made himself a mega star, looked strong in top feuds, created one of the most charasmatic personas in a time when Brothas really wasn't allowed to make moves in wrasslin. Was a legit star in a time when wrestling was in its golden era.

Tbh before my time. I caught the tail end of his WWF run and that was mostly through vhs. And I don't even remember him when he was in wcw. From what little I saw of his career he oozed charisma. Can't really give him a rating

Another one bites the dust :birdman:

I loved JYD..dude connected with the crowd in a way few has..At his peak only Hulk Hogan was a bigger babyface...gimmick was simple..brolic black man with a thick ass chain...and it worked....JYD was not a workrate kind of guy but could work..he's like piper in a way his best ring moments were carried by his feuds....no better example of this than his feud with the freebirds in mid south....when they blinded him with the hair cream.that got heat...when he mentioned he couldn't see his newborn daughter....NUCLEAR fukkING HEAT!!!..so bad that when JYD was in the ring "blinded" with the freebirds, fans were jumping in the ring with the "Heel B good" specials in their hand talmbout they got his back..the freebirds had to get police escorts for a while :heh:...that is true heel heat and a perfect case of maintaining kayfabe in a situation where the freebirds could have been murdered right in front of him...one thing about Bill Watts..for his reputation dude had no problems pushing black stars..in the WWF im surprised they didnt give JYD a run with a title...IC or tag belts..he was a legit draw..his WCW stint though still got his pops but he was unfortunately kind of passed it..I didnt really like it...I was happy and somewhat surprised when ECW gave him his final moment of recognition recognizing him as a hardcore legend at wrestlepalooza before he passed..he got a pretty great reaction from the crowd :salute:

Only saw the tail end of his career, but will give him a 6 solely for knowing how loved he was by crowds, his charisma leading to that, and being one of the first true identifiable gimmicks. He's still talked about today with admiration which shows how much he connected with people. I'd have him higher if I could actually name feuds and matches he was in.

one thing about Bill Watts..for his reputation dude had no problems pushing black stars..

Which is exactly why Vince still refusing to push black stars is inexcusable. Even people who were heavy on the :mjpls: still gave black stars a chance to shine and they usually would do extremely well. Everyone can see that black stars can be marketable and connect with crowds as major players except for Vince.

It was awful reading that that tweet from Naomi awhile back with her mentioning the creative team struggling to figure out how to market her. If you can't find a way to market a fine, very athletic, and very likable black woman, you gotta clean out that creative team like the 49ers.

Sorry to do this but I'm giving JYD a strong 6. He really wasn't all that good in the ring in comparison of Tony Atlas and even Kamala . However, his promo skills were dope as hell because he would go at wrestlers like they cut in front of the line. He even talked about their moms on some occasions :heh:.

Overall, JYD is an example of the character development>>>>wrestling skills argument.

Dude even said that he didn't see black or white...he sees green. Something that I truly appreciate about WCW in general, while Vince Mcmahon had black wrestlers doing ridiculous bullshyt..WCW was going beyond the stereotypes and it paid off. Harlem Heat, DOOM, 2 Cold Scorpio, Sgt Craig Pittman, etc. All of these wrestlers were not only over with the crowd, but did so without Vince's fukkery.

Harlem Heat was stereotypical as fukk breh...they even came out with a white slave master type manager at one point lol...you are right tho it wasnt as bad as in the E where all the black wrestlers had to be some dancing athletic type.

True lol...but come on dude. Harlem Heat type of booking vs Flash Funk. The Sherri as manager shyt didn't really last long as she moved on when she got with Col Parker which was a weird storyline.
