Even the thought that an album is any thing more than a personal classic is

There is no universal categories that people agree that need to be checked off to be classic

Everyone doesn't listen to music the same.

Sidenote: I find it funny how most classics came in 90s where people grew up listening to them and they became sort of "soundtrack to their teens"

I always think this when people use the word classic...

for whatever reason(s) a piece of music means alot to someone or a group of people, thats cool with me, never really felt it necessary to deride someone for having that emotional attachment to a piece of music.

You can be pedantic re: the semantics but whether people use the term "personal" classic or drop the "personal"...

it's all the same to me.

OP's mad that pretty much every classic hip hop album was birthed in the 80s/90s, and for some reason he feels a certain way about that, so he gives us this brain dead opinion that subjective art or creations cant be objectively analyzed. So you hear that...no classic movies, no classic shows, no classic paintings, no classic cars, no classic fashion, etc, etc, etc.

I understand and see what OP is saying which is why to be honest if Im doing the whole classic discussion it is on overall impact.

I never use personal tastes for deciding classics because just as u said, things like nostalgia and the like come into play...

If the impact is great then I deem it classic whether or not I like it
