On dawn of the first day of April, 2014, I awoke from my nightly slumber earlier than I would have desired. The time was slightly over 3:00am. I was annoyed. I wanted badly to go back to sleep as I had 4 more hours before I had to get up for work. As I attempted to go to sleep however, a text from a friend back east came to me and disturbed my attempt. I read it briefly and tried going back to sleep again. And this time, as I slept, a series of vivid images began to pass through my mind.
And there I was out in a place that appeared to be a mall. It was crowded. As I proceeded to make my way through a flight of stairs that led to a higher floor, i hear what sounded like a fast repetition of gunfire. The noise sounded as though it was coming from beneath me. I saw a slew of people begin to take cover. They were justifiably terrified. Screams of terror filled the air. It was complete pandemonium. What made it even more horrifying was the fact that no one could tell where the gunfire was coming from. All i saw were people beginning to lie face down.
Some were startled (myself included) and wanted to see where the gun fire was coming from but then I hear a loud voice say 'everyone lay down'. Considering i was already making my way up a flight of stairs, I was out in the open and felt exposed. I needed to either get up to the next floor fast or find a way to lay down amongst the bodies of people that were already on the ground. I shivered with fright on what to do.
I crawled hurriedly on to the next floor and as i did, I caught a glimpse of the back of what appeared to be the gun man. I could not make out his race but I believe he had dark hair. I saw this man with his hands pointed forward as if holding a rifle and his hands were covered with what appeared to be a light blue collared shirt with white stripes. I couldn't tell what was covered underneath by the shirt, but imagined it had to be some type of machine gun. That explained why no one could immediately identify where the gun shots were coming from. The gun was hidden from plain view by the shirt. Don't know anything about guns but that had to be my guess.
When I finally got to the next floor, I can still hear the continuation of gunfire. I can tell lives were being lost as no one could still make out where the gun fire was coming from. While on the next floor, I wanted to get an idea of where the man was. I decided to peep down below as carefully as I could. When i did, i saw the same man still standing and holding a gun. He wasn't shooting anymore. He just appeared to be looking for moving bodies.
A gun was in my hand and from above I pointed the gun at his head to shoot, and as I shot, I did not hear a sound go off. So i hid back down again on the side of what appeared to be a long office desk. Somehow the gun man found his way to the next floor and was now walking the floor I was on, looking for I guess more victims to shoot.
I could see him pacing. He walked on the other side of the desk I was hiding behind but I don't think he saw me. I accidentally made loud movements that I assumed would have aroused the suspicion of anyone in his position. But surprisingly, he did not see me nor did he hear me. He was just pacing back and forth. I wanted to hurt this man but since the gun in my hand didn't work, i considered pushing the desk on him and having him knocked out of balance, but I hesitated. He had a gun. I didn't.
Then, the vivid images stopped and, yet again, I sprung awake. Be careful out there my friends.
