The Day Martin Luther King Died - Unpublished Photos

On April 4, 1968, LIFE photographer Henry Groskinsky and writer Mike Silva, on assignment in Alabama, learned that Martin Luther King, Jr., had been shot at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis. The two men jumped into their car, raced the 200 miles to the scene of the crime, and there — to their astonishment — found that they had unfettered access to the hotel’s grounds; to the abandoned buildings from which the rifle shot likely came; to Dr. King’s room; and to the bleak, blood-stained balcony where the civil rights leader had fallen, mortally wounded by an assassin’s bullet, mere hours earlier.

For reasons lost in the intervening decades, the photographs that Groskinsky took that night in Memphis — at the very site of one of the signal events of the 1960s — were never published, and the story behind them was never told. Until now...

KungFu Fighting & kicks that are fast as Lightning
dude spent his whole life preaching non violence and turn the other cheek

only for someone to leave his blood stains leaking on that balcony..

I think many people had enough and felt like his death was the last straw which is why the Black Panther movement guided by Malcolm's philosophy really started to take off nationwide after 1968

MLK tried, but u can't be civilized with devils and bigots, the only language they understand is the language of violence and strength

Today, I went to Target and was in the changing room trying on a shirt.

I overhear the older lady working the counter talking to an even older man. After some chit chat, lady asked "You see Selma?"

The even older man says "That was my era. I was an adult around that time. Saw it with my own eyes. No need for me to see shyt."

I was :ohhh: by the door.

Powerful stuff.:wow:
