I was over in the booth and there was a thread about how all the major hip hop publications don't really have black employees and the conversation turned to the coli having its own. No, I'm not starting one. But between the coli talking about having its own podcast, Youtube channel, and now magazine, it seems like a lot can be done. Any way, I scraped up a couple concepts to try and visualize how our magazine would look. It couldn't just be hip hop, cause we cover a wide range of topics. So I made one rap cover and one sports cover. I have a few more I will put up later (Yes, even the JBO edition). But this is what I got so far. It's not groundbreaking by any means, but it helps to visually see how it could work. Obviously, it would have to be a digital publication, and then you have to determine how are we are going to promote the mag and where. Also, would it be limited to those with accounts, or open to anyone.

Not bad at all. The typeface is the biggest problem. Try something like Playfair Display for the copy if you want to be official. Anyway I went ahead and put it on a canvas since I happen to be doing magazine design right now as well. Also not to be picky or anything but I think magazine covers need to match A4 letter specs. But I see what you're doing

@FSP and @Dracudiddy Yeah, I hate the font too. But during my research, the majority of magazines don't use anything outside of plan serif font. I imagine this is the case because anything outside of basic typeset can be distracting and hard to read. I took some liberty with the TSC edition and used a more catchy font. A lot of hip hop magazines do disobey this rule, but again, the coli magazine cant be exclusive to hip hop, it's gotta encompass all the other things too. So I guess I have to find something in between. Something with broad appeal, but maybe a bit unconventional. I would say the font is the hardest thing to decide on a magazine cover. A lot of psychology behind it.

Magazine draft cover is crazy clean....:wow:

Every issue give 3 - 5 different posters 1 page each to discuss literally whatever topics they want including, displaying their favorite threads, etc...call it "Posters Gone/Gonna Post".

I have a few more in mind... want to do that sports edition one over... Then I might move on to working on a podcast concept.

From a business stand point what would be the point of going to print? Waiting 30 days between issues of a paper based magazine that's originally based on a 24/7 message board that gets updated with new content literally every few seconds. Now you would be asking people to pay money for 30 day old content in print vs hopping on this board viewing new content ever few minutes for free.

Breh... It's one thing to not read the OP and just give a general response on the first thing you see... But your post explicitly tells me you didn't read anything. I very clearly stated that if a coli magazine were to exist, it would be a digital publication.. Appreciate ya input, though.

To be clear, I'm not starting a magazine. I just got inspired by a thread and sketched up some Coli Magazine covers.. All the details about pricing and marketing, and all that other stuff has nothing to do with me. This is for fun. Whoever takes on the task has to answer those questions.
