I'd love to know what club/lounge y'all went to and what songs had the crowd feeling The name of the club would be nice too.
I was at the Drake hotel last night in Toronto. Mixed crowd. all in their early-to-mid 20s.
Tracks that stood out:
1. Ludacris - Saturday (I don't hear this often at clubs anymore but it sounded incredible)
2. Lil Kim - Jump Off (what a blassic )
3. Kanye West - Monster (total garbage. You could see people leaving to get drinks. They played Nicki's wack ass verse only and then went straight to....)
4. Dre/Snoop - Nuthin But A G Thang (people started coming back to the dancefloor).
5. Game/50 - How We Do (another surprise record. I've barely heard this song get played at clubs since '05 and the audience was clearly )
6. Chingy - Right Thurr (Hadn't heard this in years. Still basura. Not because of the lyrical content or anything like that. It's just a dull song. Meh beat, corny vocals)
7. Drake - Hotline Bling (well.... we in Toronto so of course people were )
8. Drake - Jumpman (Black people in the audience were getting turnt. The white folk and others were standing around kinda feeling it but looking lost like they didn't know how to dance to it)
9. Aaliyah - Are You That Somebody (Another surprise. Don't hear this often at clubs nowadays. Went stupid hard. The few Black women in the audience were fukking loving it. Makes you appreciate how much of the modern bounce in hip hop is owed to Timbaland. Anything that has that southern bounce today can fit right in with an old Timbo joint)
10. T.I. - What you Know (never liked this song but I can't deny that it always gets a good crowd reaction when it first comes on. Because it has a majestic opening. But overall, it's a dull song so the DJ did as expected and switched out of it by verse 1)
11. Dr. Dre - Xxplosive (read #10)
12. 50 Cent - In Da Club (It's always funny when 50 haters try to clown 50. Say what you want about 50, there are very few rappers that have a club song as incredible as this. It's fukking timeless. The beat is genius. The opening "go shawty, it's ya birthday" is genius. and 50 brings a lot of charm to the shyt).
13. DMX - Ruff Ryders Anthem - fukking classic. DJs love this. I've been at clubs that play very little hip hop (e.g. playing African music or soca), and the DJ will always drop it to start a mini hip hop set.
