Nikkas don't need reparations. It would just end up being a worse situation than trying to deal with affirmative action and school busing. What nikkas need is a system like the native americans, where the group owns shyt that's actually worth something long-term and gets royalties for it, set up in perpetual trust funds. So let me take it back: the only reparations nikkas need is land and a treaty with the government that that land can never be sold to anyone else, but can be leased to others so that any profits continue to go back to nikkas in perpetuity instead of a one and done short-sighted cash deal.

But let me go read Coates' article to see what he really has to say.

Just read the article, and I am going to read it again.

- Coates made a mistake by entitling it 'The Case for Reparations'. The people who need to be made aware of EVERYTHING in that article, are not going to because they're going to look at that title and not click on it.
- If Conyers has been doing the same thing for 25 years and not getting anywhere, then he needs to change his tactic so that he's not doing the same thing for another 25 years and not getting anywhere.

Since many of the people affected by what's in that article are still alive, and there's a hell of a lot of shyt in that article which needs to be addressed, it's not really reparations.

Don't be fooled. And not only can it work for us, it (property) was working for us until what happened in that article with the complicity, consent and documented encouragement of the federal government.

We don't need symbolic bills which will never ever go anywhere.

We need to learn a lesson from Native America and start class-action lawsuiting. Preferably without the counterproductive involvement of Jesse Jacksons or Al Sharptons. Who to trust, though.

Phenomenal article and OP is right, Coates is one of the few black writers out there that have enough sway to stimulate meaningful debate. Incredible to think that even despite how exhaustive the piece is, its still only reflects the tip of the iceberg.

yeah the ones out in the Ft. McDowell area and along baseline and around 91st ave are fuked six ways from sunday. Alcoholism is a mutha fuka.

I also heard from this lady I work with that meth dealers will let the kids get high for free because they know at age 18 the kids are gonna get a huge check.

Money definitely will help, but there's more to the problem facing both the black and NA communities than a lack of money. Generational nihilism and a stagnant mindset need to considered. At the risk of sounding condescending and for lack of a better analogy you can't just give millions to a kid and expect him to make all the right choices.

I wouldn't accept reparations even if they were given. I didn't work a single one of those days . How am I going to take someone elses unpaid wages? :ehh:

Collect for your ancestors or maybe even just your grandparents and parents depending on how old they are.
