Hollywood clearly uses a basic formula for casting/writing purposes that they just keep using over and over.

The football player black guy is essential to every Teen Horror movie.

They are a variation of the black buck movie trope. Strong, athletic, brave, etc. But not smart and almost always end up dying in the worst or most ridiculous ways.
