New Resistance Trademark Filed by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe
This morning, the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market threw up an interesting little tidbit for fans of Sony first party titles. An oft-forgotten member of the PS3 launch line-up was the first person shooter Resistance. This game alone spawned a pair of sequels and a couple of handheld spin-offs. It’s a shame that they sort of died a death by the end of the last generation. Could there be a possible resurgence happening though? Well that’s what the trademark filed today could suggest.
Now before you get your speculation hats on let’s just think for a moment. This could simply be a trademark issued to protect the original one registered in Europe on October 9, 2007. That being said, it could also be a sign that Sony intents to revisit this franchise for a few more cracks of the whip. Could we even see a reboot in the midst?
The trademark itself, filed by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s London offices is a standard CTM (community trade mark) which encompasses three different types of product. We’ve got the rather obvious computer game software, the merchandise-y good bits like toys, and the filing of Electronic games services provided by means of the internet.
This throws up any number of possibilities for Resistance fans. We could be lining up to see a new Resistance title finally land on Sony’s PlayStation 4 or PlayStation Vita. Maybe they’ll consider trying something new like they did with Resistance: Retribution. Heck they might even be considering packaging a couple of the titles onto the PlayStation Vita to accompany the rather lackluster Resistance: Burning Skies.
Or of course they could just be covering their asses and we are speculating to high heaven or Chimera hell about all of this. There’s been nothing showing up as of yet on the US side of the trademark-o-sphere. Whether that’ll become clear later today is another matter entirely.
