Funny it's now that people are all hopping on the Fela train. I first learned about dude when he had just passed from a nigerian friend. Funny how the first ting about him that caught my attention is that he had declared his home (a small community, really) 's independence from Nigeria on some "i'm gonna form my own country" type sh!t. Pure genius. :ehh:

Someday I'm gonna buy enough land and do just that. 3 or 4 acres should do.Declare my independence from the country where I am and name my own sovereign nation. Have a U.N. representative and all :pachaha:

This man's music was genius.

:ohhh:

Africans of the coli, school me to some African music.
Old or new, it doesn't matter.

I always liked this track. But there's another one i like even better. Cant recall the name. Its in my mp3 collection.

We need an International music thread!

I always hear people talk about "I love music" but they strictly stick to the typical R&B, rap and Soul they are used to. Until you venture out of your norm/comfort zone and explore and enjoy other foreign genres you really aren't a lover of MUSIC. And by that i don't just mean Reggae  I can't give you credit for that quite yet.

Fela makes beautiful music but Latino music is also worth exploring. Juan Luis Guerra of the is one of my favorites. "Frio, Frio", "Birubillina". Dope sh!t. I also like Rosario. This other black cuban dude...cant recall his name is pretty dope too. I wish my spanish was better so i could fully understand the lyrics.
From Haiti, you have Tabou Combo, Alan Cave and Emeline Michel who make beautiful music that really express the essence of the genre. Kassav' and Malavoi out of Martinique. :blessed:

Damn shame so few of you know this man in my avi :smh:
