other than the single "regulate" r u really acting like warren g had one song anybody cares about then or now....

The album went triple platinum... and is credited to bringing back Def Jam no artist on Def Jam was moving units.. And if I remember correctly Warren G going plat opened the door for Montell Jordan.. :comeon: lets be honest here. The G Funk sound saved an east coast label. :takedat:

By 1992, despite recent multi-platinum selling releases from LL Cool J, Public Enemy, and EPMD, Def Jam ran into severe financial troubles and was faced with folding.
However, in 1994, PolyGram purchased Sony's 50% stake in Def Jam Recordings — subsequently bringing the label into its fold. Following PolyGram’s purchase, Def Jam distributed the Violator Records signed artist Warren G's Regulate... G Funk Era album, which went triple platinum and brought much-needed revenue to Def Jam through its distribution deal with Violator.

Op is right. Def Jam was struggling like crazy in the early 90s, and there was a chance the label might have gone under. They were producing nothing but flops. It was that bad. Warren's album was one of the biggest of the year, and completely saved what was at the time a fledgling label. Of course Warren would never do anything of merit after, but the statement still remains.

Actually I'm from NC so I'm not a west coast poster. I mean if I remember well the album was classic.

:wow:

Bottom line the album was classic Dej Jam didn't have an artist at the time that was selling 3 million. As a matter of fact at one point Dej Jam was pushing horrocore artist. Now I will say Def Jam didn't come back full fledged until the mid to late 90s but Warren G saved that label prior.
