Somehow Canibus destroying LL Cool J has turned into some parallel universe shyt and now, due to radio and Def Jam execs/artists cooking the books, most people of today actually think LL won, lol. That LL response to 2nd Round KO was laughably trash. LL didn't "end his career", which is the narrative they attempt to run with, Canibus ended his own career by making awful music, no matter how lyrically inclined it was

Jay was consistently Top 5 most popular rapper in the game. There was always rappers more popular than him tho. His consistency is what puts him above others.

The bigger revisionist thing is that ANY one person 'ran rap' during that time. There were NUMEROUS people selling multi platinum and running big tours. He was one of the top guys, but there was more than just one.

while I agree that "I am" being trash is revisionist history, whatever rating it got in a magazine is neither here nor there.

while it was far from trash, it certainly didn't deserve a 4 1/2 mic rating either.

I always felt like LL won that.

but yea, cannibus ended his own career by dropping an album that the public hated.

I agree, it's like 3.5/4 ish to me, but the narrative is that it was widely panned by fans and critics and that's not true.

That's been the narrative since 1998

A better example would be how KMD clearly ripped L but due purely to newer flow, career longevity, and commercial appeal people started thinking LL won
