Another question is, moving forward, do you think it will ever improve? I think we of the African diaspora should glorify Haiti like the west glorifies Greece. The first nation to throw off the shackles of the oppressor. They hate Haiti- thats why it should be our duty to try to help that nation prosper.
That's a great point fam; When I teach the Haitian Revolution, I always start it as the first revolution I teach to promote their autonomous ass whooping of 3 fukkING EMPIRES. We must have pride in teaching Haitian history and ask critical questions as to why it faltered after emancipation. Once we do that on a widespread scale, we can develop ideas of how to improve it. Much of Haiti's more contemporary struggles have to do with the fluidity of neoliberalism though, so that has to be addressed as well.
They are pissed because Dessalines pushed every single fukking white person out of Haiti with the massacre, but if you read their conditions and what they did to the Africans there, you would understand why Dessalines took such drastic measures.
