From what I've read so far, his life would make a crazy movie.

:whoo: you ain't lying.....if all these accounts is true...this dude put the "s" in SHOTTA and the "d" in "don".............

only thing is i never really heard any dancehall cats and yardies big him up like other infamous gunmen and dons such as Willie Hoghart, Zeekes, Dudas, Skeng Don, Sandokan and many others.....

and i'm guessing it has to do with the fact that he did a majority of putting in "work" over in England where is alledged to have introduced "crack" to the british isles :ld:

The millionaire crook was deported back to Jamaica in November 1988 where he was wanted for shooting dead a police officer. At that time he was branded the most dangerous foreign national in Britain. But he escaped from police custody and fled to London just a few months later. Mystery has surrounded his whereabouts ever since.

One senior Scottish police officer said: "There is no doubt he is responsible for the crack cocaine explosion in Scotland.

Since then the Godfather of British Yardies has blazed a trail of terror across the country. As Ranking Dread he earned brief fame among reggae fans with dancefloor hit Fattie Boom Boom in the early 1980s.

I also got some background info on his orgin...it's crazy...he had a promising reggae career back in the 70's ...but somehow decided to dedicate himself fully to the streets by becoming an enforcer for the infamaous jamaican gangsta Claudie Massop who led the Phoenix Gang which would later be renamed the Shower Posse under Jim Brown's rule in Tivoli Gardens Jamaica.

I think why thier was a lot of "mystery" about not only his whereabouts but his activies was the fact that he was fighting for the "opposition party" in jamaica at the time...which was the JLP .......the PNP won the election which sent many yardies like him abroad to "eat" and send back money to support Eddie Seaga (JLP canidate) campaign.

And keep in mind Seaga was nicknamed "Eddie CIA" because his campaign was heavily endorsed by the CIA of America in an effort to combat the socialist PNP regime supported by Castro back in Cuba...

so alot of cats like Ranking would be under the radar till they showed up in the press for some sensational crime, or were outed for thier ties or no longer had the cosign of the big homies (JLP)/CIA back home....kinda like that other Shower Posse gunman Modeler who went on a killing spree threatning to murder american students in the islands......they (CIA) and the Shower Posse had to distance themselves from him.

Also consider most of the reggae industry particularly the soundsystems are PNP based...Kilamanjaro, Stereomars and artists such as Supercat, Sugar Minott and Barrington Levy were strong socialist PNP affilated cats........

so Ranking wouldn't be popular in that aspect.....but real talk homie was a beast in those streets.......... :violent:

Born Fi Dead by Laurie Gunst is hands down the best text i've read on the subject.......she actually documents her time with a jamaican posse affiliate during the 80's.....

a damn good read

the way she weaves the intimate connection between Crime , Politics and the Reggae Industry is Epic!

although she gets criticisim for being an "outsider" i.e (jewish author) i give her props cause her research was on point and very detailed......and credible!

More than i can say about that pathetic "Shower Posse" book i read by Vivian blake's son :aicmon:

haven't read "YARDIES" yet..i'm gonna check it out.....

Yeah man, a PNP ting.

You know much about the Gullymen? I was searching up a Nicodemus video and found this gem from 1987, King Addies. The video struck me as some New Jack City shyt from the start, big soundsystem in a tiny NY apartment block. I remember watching a documentary that mentioned they killed the Jamaican owner of an apartment block in Brooklyn, on Sterling Place and Schenectady Ave - Irene Court - to be specific. I did a Google and it turned out it was NEW JACK CITY FOR REAL, the video was shot INSIDE the block a few years after the murder and a few years prior the crew getting stung. Here is Nico D in fine style up inna NYC....GULLY business

"Big up Albert the videoman. This dance was held in Brooklyn as a private affair in an apartment located at Irene Court on Sterling Place and Schenetady Ave. In the background is Pleasure, Crat, Planner, Roland Demus, Carter Brown, Cornel Doggie, myself, and the Original owner Addie who I sold nuff equipment to."

http://www.nytimes.com/1990/12/08/n...in-raids-to-dismantle-jamaican-drug-ring.html

Seventeen people have been arrested in raids against what Federal agents called a ruthless Jamaican drug-trafficking gang that controlled crack houses in Brooklyn and Dallas and has been linked to at least 10 killings.

But the leader of the organization and several of his top lieutenants evaded the Thursday night dragnet by Federal agents and New York City police officers and were still being sought last night, the authorities said.

For a decade, the gang of illegal aliens from Jamaica, known as the Gulleymen, operated a network of crack houses and heroin dealers that at its high point took in more than $60,000 a day in profits, agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation said. The profits went into real estate in Brooklyn and on Long Island or was shipped back to Jamaica, some to boost the campaign warchests of Jamaican politicians, the agents said.

The arrests and criminal complaints filed in Federal court yesterday opened a window on the way Jamaican drug gangs, known as posses, conduct the lucrative business of selling crack on the street. The posses, along with other new organized-crime gangs, have played a growing role in the drug business in New York and other large cities in the last 10 years as the influence of the Italian Mafia and other more established groups has declined, F.B.I. agents said.

In July, 1989, the leader of another posse, Delroy (Uzi) Edwards, was convicted in Federal court in Brooklyn of racketeering charges that included six murders. Prosecutors said that Mr. Edwards's gang also operated in Washington and Philadelphia.

The police said the Gulleymen used rental cars to ferry cocaine from New York to Texas and filled the cars on return trips with dozens of illegal handguns bought in the South. The group wired hundreds of thousands of dollars in profits through Western Union offices.

They also sold franchises to street-level dealers, supplying them with crack and protection for a set fee.

But the Gulleymen's success still rested on the traditional tools of organized crime -- beatings, torture and murder, the authorities said.

The group is accused of killing at least 10 people, most of them rival drug dealers and former gang members who crossed the gang's leader, identified as Eric Vassell, 31 years old. Investigators said they believe the Gulleymen -- who take their name from a neighborhood in Kingston, Jamaica, called McGregor's Gulley -- were responsible for 20 other slayings. 'So Brutally, So Cruelly'

Several former gang members whom Mr. Vassell and his associates had tried to kill cooperated with investigators, said James M. Fox, assistant director in charge of the New York F.B.I. office. "Vassell treated his people so brutally, so cruelly, that some of them turned on him," Mr. Fox said.

After a 10-month investigation, scores of Federal agents and city police officers raided 22 buildings starting at 8 P.M. Thursday in Brooklyn, Albany, Uniondale, L.I., and Dallas. The gang's headquarters was an apartment building at 1367 Sterling Place near Schenectady Avenue in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, Mr. Fox said. The authorities seized 15 guns, $150,000 in cash and six buildings.

Those arrested Thursday night were charged yesterday in Federal court with drug trafficking and money laundering as well as participation in 10 murders. Prosecutors said state murder charges and a Federal racketeering indictment are being prepared.

The apartment building was known in the organization as "the White House" or "the killing house," Mr. Fox said. The police said gang members and rival dealers were often brought there and shot to death in the hallways, or beaten in vacant apartments.

The gang sold crack in the stairwells of the apartment building 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, netting about $8,000 daily, Mr. Fox said. A crew of four workers sold to customers in the stairwells, carrying money and drugs from several "stash" apartments. Houses and Stores

Mr. Vassell bought the building, using a dummy corporation, in the early 1980's, after ordering the murder of the owner, the complaints charged.

The gang used drug profits to buy lavish houses in Uniondale and Hempstead, L.I., where they stored drugs, and to buy businesses that were fronts for drug operations, the police said.

The complaints accuse the gang of importing more than 400 guns since 1987 and forging dozens of passports and green cards for gang members.

The gang also sold packaged wholesale cocaine and heroin to street-corner drug dealers who paid the Vassell organization a tax, investigators said. "He franchised his operation in New York, just like Roy Rogers or McDonald's," Mr. Fox said. Shipping 'Vote Getters'

A soft-spoken man, Mr. Vassell ran the posse from the backroom of a video store, Crat & Al's, at 203 Schenectady Avenue, and from the Crown Heights Domino and Soccer Association nearby, detectives said.

In June 1984, the complaint charges, Mr. Vassell ordered the death of the former landlord of the Sterling Place building, Joscelyn D. Watson, because he had frequently called the police to the neighborhood.

The complaint said that Mr. Vassell ordered the murder of one man because he belonged to the Jamaica Labor Party. The victim, Cedric Miller, survived the attack.

Mr. Vassell gave funds to the ruling People's National Party in Jamaica and once belonged to a violent youth group that works for the party, investigators said. After a killing, he would collect the guns used, stuff them in a television set and send them to party members in Jamaica, calling the guns "vote getters," the complaint said.

Residents of 1367 Sterling Place said yesterday they were relieved by the arrests but worried that Mr. Vassell would return.

"Living here, you risk your life everytime you walk through the hall because you never know who was out there," said Cheryll Burkett.

But others said they had no reason to fear Mr. Vassell as long as they did not interfere with his business. "If you knew them, they would look out for you," said Mozell Wright, 40, a home attendant. "They wouldn't let nobody attack you."

As for Ranking Dread, I don't know much. I know he definitely set pace for a lot of the late 80s and 90s badness in the UK. The 80s was such a mad period for Jamaican politics/music/gangsterism.

Big up the people who managed to survive and prosper. Jamaicans pioneering spirit is admirably, despite the fukkery that a lot of them managed to get mixed up in.

There are still a few very big dons who came up off the 80s, invested in the 90s, retired in the 00s and still have their connections to rely on. Jamaica is a mad island, for real.

^^^ big up GORGONITE!!!

Yeah the GULLYMEN were THE POSSE in BK.....

which explains why KING ADDIES sound system was highly respected on the streets....

Eric Vassell of the Gullymen POSSE was linked up with the ADDIES CREW cause of thier mutual relationship with the PNP and the SPANGLERS CREW rivals of the SHOWER POSSE in Jamaica

THAT CLIP U POSTED IS SO SIGNIFICANT cause it shows some legit RUDEBWOIS from that from the Brooklyn era such as PLEASURE MINOTT who was left paralyzed after a shootout...

PNP/GULLYMEN got into a heated war when they crossed paths with JLP/SHOWER POSSE controlled areas like Dallas..DC and parts of Jersey where a deadly shootout took place

But I can honestly say based on all the dancehall sessions and tapes I listened to NONE OF THE ARTIST bragged or boasted or dry snitches on WAX about this life..

much like RANKING DREAD whom records I heard before but prior to this thread I didn't know anything about him being a SHOTTA for the JLP party......

one credit to his career is that he DIDN'T INCRIMINATE HIMSELF ON WAX...

and that's why I always respected dancehall artist....

Unlike RAPPERS :camby:

they SUPERCAT..NICODEMUS...JUNIOR DEMUS and TENOR SAW and the whole ADDIES CREW of singers and toasters DIDNT BLUR THE LINE BETWEEN entertainment and reality

In spite of thier affiliation

I spoke on the history of ADDIES and a little bout thier political and street connection here: http://www.thecoli.com/threads/broo...oard-sound-of-reggae-30th-anniversary.164679/

Addies tapes always had bigups (shoutouts) to the dons, posse's and gangsters of that era such as the Moscow Crew...Sterling Massive...Barry and the Schenectedy Crew...as well as PFK outta Flatbush ....it was always a respect thing

but the artists I can truly say NEVER CROSSED that line like you have the likkle idiot bwoi CHRIS BROWN claiming blood....

hell even in the shower posse book you hear of Nicodemus up in the Bronx chilling with Shower Posse backed promoters ....

also I recall Shower Don Vivian Blake booking a show which included Beenie Man who was clearly PNP affiliated due to his links with the BLACK ROSES CREW in Jamaica....

MUSIC WAS MUSIC...and POLITRICKS AND STREET ISSUES was another issue....

rappers should take note

Yeah man nuff names you mentioned I heard about! Ian Moscow etc.

I had a huge post written about how Ranking Dread influenced a lot of the badness we currently experience in the UK. Them man 'set pace' as we say over here, they set the levels for the violence that was to come. There was a documentary I was trying to find about him, a documentary called the Cook Report filmed him in 1992 and accused him of being a Yardie, he wasn't watching faces that day tho!! Kept it moving. Wish I could find it.

Them man are alleged to have introduced crack to certain areas. Not sure the truth of that. I heard another rumour that there was a certain 'dread' from East London who was FORCED to start selling crack by a crooked policeman, but I can't find my source for that now.

Them man set a template that is still followed to this day. The UK born youths had no choice but to rise to the levels that were being set, or face being extorted/robbed/pressured. The 80s and 90s saw posses on every 'frontline' strip from London, to Bristol, Birmigham, Leeds, Manchester, Nottingham...major cities, small towns, same thing.

I will drop some knowledge for the people when I can put it together.

What you man know about the new-school 'Shower' franchises? There are UK born nikkas screaming 'SHO SHO' and bigging up Dudus like he was a neighbour. Tottenham/New Cross/Brixton/Neasden are certified Shower ends in London. Elsewhere they're more quiet. Nuff fukkery has been kept up over the years. It's sad.

Yeah the Brixton crew is no joke.....during the 90's they were on some chiraq street level type of shyt

Buju Banton almost lost his life in London...when some rudies ran up on him and another artist and tried to rob them of thier dubplate money
:whew:

London was a serious ting as far as violence and hustling and still is...in fact Ranking Dread is just one of the many "deportees" whom found asylum in England following thier deportation from America....and not wanting to do deal with the rammifications of thier actions in Jamaica...

For example one of the biggest and most respected dons of the Music industry and the streets was the soundsystem owner and operator Junjo Lawes a well respected producer as well....ironically he was linked with the PNP/Gullyman as well

he formed the infamous Volcano Soundsystem/Posse that featured such acts as Burro Banton, Josey Wales, Yelloman , Toyan and the legendary Barrington Levy who sung the hook on the Shyne track "Bad Boy"..

One of Barrington's biggest hits is the tune "UNDER MI SENSI" a ganja anthem in which he refrences a situation at the Volcano Sound where they had gotten a "visit" from the Police but also shouts out selector Danny Dread who made nuff travels on PNP affiliated sounds such as Socialist Roots, Sturmas, Youthman Promotion and the well mention King Addies....the BK, JAMAICA..LONDON connection was strong!

"UNDER MI SENSI"

The music was obviously a reflection of the enviornment of the Volcano sound movement because when Junjo Lawes decided to take the sound abroad in New York ..he was caught up in a a major ganja smuggling indictment and sent back to jamaica but decided to make a depature towards England...

where unfortunatly he was MURDERED :merchant: in the northwest section of London known as Harlesden....

obviously it was "Posse Business" run amock :snoop:

and things really haven't changed......i see that Fadda Fowl is back home already ... :why:

1185098_626298010736165_1220229063_n-Optimized.jpg
fadda fowl and crew...

i remember reporting on his arrest several years back on a blog....Fadda Fowl was ALLEDGEDLY running coke from jamaica to london for years...

i know he had a long run as a don in the music game....i remember all those wicked BRITISH LINK UP dvd's with nuff entertainers like Beenie Man etc. and some of the sexiest gyal dem :ohlawd:

this is from 2013.....look like his crew never lost a step :ehh:

So you seh ...Shower still active in the british isles?? :patrice:

not suprising considering Scotland Yard was the first to initiate prosecution against Yardie Posse's like Shower Posse.......

in fact when Dudas was a fugitive...London was one of the locations seen as a possible haven for Dudas...along with Toronto and NYC...

But the fukkery is almost invevitable, because just like America if you have a breakdown of a strong family unit in the midst of few economic opportunites and lack of self identity driven by shallow materalisim...then it's likely to happen :manny:

the Don and Posse business will always be seen as a logical outfit for a yute he is tired of the "sufferation"

not saying I agree...but I understand :comeon:

especially considering as you mentioned the Corruption and Influence of not only the Police but Politicians who sit thier under the table arming the youth with guns and drugs....

and to that i must add my HARD ON HOES input.......hate to put my cousin on blast, but she was raised and still lives in Birmingham and i was under the assumption that her and her friends from the UK was "different"...

she is just as MATERIALISTIC as the THOTS over here in the states.....

so it's the same shyt different toilet

"MONEY makes the world go round...and Material Things make a Hoe go down"

so these guys in the desire to obtain Women and a Luxury standard of living will take Pentitentary Risks in order to achieve that...

but to quote an ole reggae song:

"He who believieth in VANITY but cannot love HUMANITY shall fade away" :lawd:

as Supercat say..."Mi cry fi di youth" :to:

in fact when Dudas was a fugitive...London was one of the locations seen as a possible haven for Dudas...along with Toronto and NYC...

^ Documentary featuring footage of Father Fowl's raid. Whole documentary is wicked, touches on a lot.

Yeah Junjo got shot up round in NW10 (Neasden, Harlesden, Stonebridge, Wembley all come under NW10, nuff Jamaicans round there). Couple crews were operating out of NW them times, Lock City and Kickoffhead but they went by various names.

Dudus reportedly had a daughter in New Cross and was seen around South East London casually.

JayDan from NW10...Original oldschool Shower connect. Back in the day most North London ends were linked either through family ties. This yout is out in Miami (no surprise there).

All the mandem in this video rep Shower, them man are mostly North (Tottenham N17/15) and Spray is from East. Them man there are real gunmen, whole heap of murderers in the video. The Hackney/Tottenham beef is one of the most long-running feuds. It all stems from the stabbing of a youth from Tottenham called Kingsley 'Popcorn' Iysrara who was stabbed by Hackney youths in revenge for an earlier stabbing. Nuff shootings went down after that.

^ All Shower links. Pure money man, and a CRAZY set of street myths involving Obeah and all sorts of other dark stuff. You know about Mark Lambie? Leader of TMD, went to prison for a LONG time about ten years ago. These man are evil. Lambie survived a shooting when man RAN UP IN A CAFE and asked for ANYONE NAMED MARK to stand up. He stayed still, and another man called Mark (also black) stood up and was shot dead instantly. Rumour has it he calmly sat still until the hitmen left.
