Its quite an admirable approach isn’t it? When people think ‘next-gen’ one of the first things people’s minds race to is visual fidelity and the quality of graphics in games. After all, better visuals in a game tend to be the primary way to gauge technological progression in this field. As one of the most highly anticipated games in recent history, Shenmue 3 has enjoyed a very long absence from the industry, skipping an entire console generation only to now finally make its way on to center stage and quite naturally, one thing most eager fans will no doubt love to see in the third iteration of the classic series is just how far a jump the game has made visually. Many of us fans have doubtless imagined a highly detailed Ryo in a beautifully realised open world rendition of Hong Kong. However, judging by the comments from legendary game designer Yu Suzuki, you might want to scale back those expectations for Shenmue 3. In an interview withEurogamer he said the following:
"The game itself doesn’t have to be gorgeous visually – a lot of the money these days goes into the graphics. If we perhaps compromise on the graphics and put more into the story, we can make a good game." shenmue devs
