The Internet pornography site Pornhub was getting clicks on Wednesday for more than just the usual reasons, as a story revealing the site’s top search terms was trending on Facebook. Meanwhile, Twitter user (and rapper) Kanye West’s new album, “The Life of Pablo,” was streaming on the porn portal, before being pulled.
Pornhub teamed with “deep web” purveyors Vocative to analyze, from sea to shining sea, what terms Americans were searching for when they visited the adult site. The data is from the first month of this year.

Much of the country is looking for “lesbian” content it seems, as a map showed 30 states awash in the purple illustrating that search term. Vocative points out that California accounts for the largest proportion of searches nationwide, and took the crown with more than 187,000 searches for the “lesbian” in January alone. Five states —Wyoming, Montana, Minnesota, Ohio and Maine — were more into “step sister,” while “step mom” was the attractive choice in Alaska, Washington, Kentucky and New Hampshire.
Pornhub further points out that Nebraska, Arkansas, Tennessee and Vermont did the most searching for “cartoon” porn and “ebony” ruled the day in Southern states such as Mississippi, Louisiana and Georgia — as well as Delaware. Wildcard terms “MILF” (we see you, Rhode Island) and “Asian” (Hawaii) were also revealed in the research.
Pornhub says users also like to browse the nearly 100 categories available on the site, and the data there reveals “teen” to be the top-ranking choice in 19 states even though it’s not one of the search leaders.
Pornhub ranks as the 66th most popular website in the world, with 20.8 percent of the visitors coming from the United States. Consequence of Sound cleverly points out that it shouldn’t surprise anyone that Kanye West’s album ended up there, however briefly. His song “Hell of a Life,” off “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy,” opens with the line “I think I just fell in love with a porn star …”
