I've had the X1 since launch Nov. 22. Upon hooking it up and doing the update without any hiccups I was greeted by a fast and fluid interface. My first test was to slide in my copy of Forza 5. I heard no grinding sound. Success! It slid in nice and smoothly, first test passed whew! Of course I had to install Forza so while it did that I played with the interface and set my cox hd dvr and home theater to work with it. I was impressed on how well it integrates with the home theater system as a whole. I have it set up to turn on the tv and avr system with "xbox on" ditto with "xbox turn off, yes" This may seem small but to walk into the room and say "xbox on" and have everything come is neat, futuristic and simple.
The controller is a little smaller and takes a little time to get use to it due to the many years of using the 360 controller. I do like the improved d-pad and vastly improved joysticks. The rumble triggers are a nice addition. The bumpers is a little tricky and I wish they would have kept the controller the same size. Regardless its still a nice controller.
The size of the system is not a big deal, its smaller than most think. Its not a looker, but its not ugly neither. It has a understated essence to it. But in the end what does it matter? I tend to look at the screen when I game so what it look like doesn't matter to me.
Things I like about the X1:
Very Quiet!
Nice and smooth interface!
Easy to stream media from my computer
Has tremendous upside (with future updates)
Dual band wireless ac capable!
Things that need improvements:
Party chats needs fixing it only works sometimes
Support for full dlna needs to come sooner rather than later
Support for ext hard drives
Small tweaks here and there.
Granted most of these will be fixed over time with updates, I believe these are features that should have worked correctly at launch. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase and can't wait to see what the future holds for the X1!
Score:
8.5/10
As far as games I have only two. Forza 5 Limited Edition and Killer Instinct.
Forza 5 is a great game if you enjoy racing, tuning and thinking how to take a corner at the correct speed, braking, apex etc. It has a great feel esp with the new rumble triggers in the controller to it give a feel that can't be described. The microtransactions while there are not pushed on you.
Things I like:
The feel is second to none
The sound is godly through my home theater system
The graphics are nice and fluid
Things that need improvement:
200 cars is not quite enough but understandable new launch and all
Not enough tracks, due to new launch etc.
DLC's will fix these Im sure but it means more $$$
Score:
8.2/10
Killer Instinct is the big surprise for me. With only 6 characters at launch this is the most additive, hard and most rewarding fighter I've played. I even put this above Injustice and I love that game. Its easy to pick up but to master a character is hard. Orchid is my girl
Things that I like:
Easy to pick up/hard to master
Very thorough training system
Every character is very different fighting style wise.
Things that need improvement:
More characters
You will play against Jago all the damn time online
Score:
8.0/10
Overall Im happy with my system and the games. Hopefully we will see reviews from our fellow coli brehs for their systems and games.
Overall its a: out of 5.
