I was channel flicking the other day and noticed tons of reality type TV shows filling the channels ie: Kardashians, wife swap, duck dynasty, X factor, Pop Idol etc.. basically tons and tons of other garbage...I never remember seeing such shows existing before. it seems in the late 90s they started to appear and exploded in the 21st century... the irony being while most science fiction of the day predicted a future that was more civilized & more intelligent... all signs indicated ( on going trend) that the human race was heading in the opposite direction -- a dumbing down....:yeshrug:

Are we a society of people that are both stupid and voyeuristic?
Predisposed to watch things supposedly happening to real people ( traffic accidents / cop chases) & are we the mass viewers so desperate for fickle entertainment...that we think reality TV is real. So basically watching a "reality" TV family is more entertaining than watching a scripted TV family & to the idiots who don't understand that the reality family is just as scripted :deadhorse:

So yea coming back full circle, why is that magic box in most of our living rooms portraying so much mindless mainstream horse manure ? & just Who the FUKK watches all these superficial recycled gameshows/rehearsed fake drama ?

Man they have a reality tv show based off of warehouses nowadays, we lost for ever letting it get that far.

I guess its the low-hanging fruit concept....find the sweet spot of effort versus payoff.

No more of this silly bullshyt of "I want to make something good, that people will genuinely appreciate and remember," or "I want to make something with real artistic value." Nope. Aim only as high as you need to in order to generate a good revenue stream, and then see how much lower that bar can go without causing problems - Networks these days :yeshrug:

The majority of us (I may be included in that group :ehh:) are being dumbed down to the point that unless something is easily digested and consumable, it gets tossed by the wayside. Reality tv takes no thinking at all. Not to be that guy, but I see a correlation between reality tv and underachieving in general.

VALID point on that strong correlation breh...Maybe it's all rooted in our attraction to gossip. People seem endlessly interested in the goings on in the lives around them, and the things people do in reality TV are very similar to stuff I've heard whispered about this person or that in typical small town gossip. The difference with reality TV is that you get to see it all happen on your television. It scratches an itch that simple minded people seem to all have. There's a quote that comes to mind:

"Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, small minds discuss people." :wow:

It's not that deep people are voyeurs

:ehh:instead of living your life, you can live it through the characters on TV. We would rather watch them living their lives....

shyt's disgusting, been like a 15-20 year trend.

My girl watches this type of shyt like "bad girls club". I asked her if she knew what continent we were on the other day to test her basic knowledge.

You don't even wanna know :snoop:

I really do not understand this, but yea you right breh.......all the women I know watch that crap (& many other superficial fakkotry) religiously.

She thought North America was just the northern part of America :laff:

I had to explain to her the difference between North and South America, and what countries are in them (on a basic level).

To give her a comparison I brought up everyone making fun of Palin for not knowing Africa was a continent and thinking it was a country. My bytch still looking at me like :dwillhuh:.

I'm just using her as proof of concept, reality tv (and cell phones/social media), have made people not give a fukk about any knowledge outside of their favorite shows and keeping up with their friends online.

YEs I have said the same things you have said in this thread for years, and the fukked up part about it is people think that shyt is real or i am the wierd one for not caring about other people lives that much.. At first the reality shows had reasons, like the real world, where they see what happens when you put people from different enviroments together to see how they react, that can be interesting from a sociolgy standpoint. But now its just nikkas that have regular jobs, like a pawn shop or tattoo artists, why do i care about these people. Then you have this infatuation with celebs to the point that people think that fame = money and dont know the cast of love and hip hop and the millions of spin off's arent rich... and most of the time that show is the first time I have heard of these people..

Easily replaced, cheaper to pay these 'reality stars'. They can literally do nothing else, so they pay them a set wage, when the world get's tired of them ala Jersey Shore, rinse and repeat.
