Peep the uploader's date: Feb 11 2011

This is before HiiPower and the release of Section 80. Dre (one of the most visible figures in hip hop history) shows up out of nowhere to cosign Kendrick, but Kendrick's not signed to Interscope nor being pushed secretly by them, right? :usure:

Then more torch-passing and hype shortly after Section80 release

then MTV says that Kendrick has signed to Interscope in March 2012, ending his run as an independent artist. :comeon:

King Koonta is the definition of manufactured hype. Show me a video with Jay-Z/Puffy etc coming out to support ASAP Rocky before Purple Swag and LiveLoveASAP. Then I'll shut the fukk up.

Otherwise, I don't wanna hear the words "Rocky a plant" coming out the mouths of a Kendrick stan ever.

In fact, Rocky/Yams are the definition of young cats who said "fukk an industry handout, we're gonna make undeniably unique shyt and create our own buzz. We'll let the music speak for itself." And instead of championing them, most of y'all hated.

Such is the way of the world.

so was asap, before you quote me with 5 paragraphs it's true. You can say what you want or deny it but he was signed before he announced it and had major label help aka an industry plant.

receipts? Just because you want to believe it doesn't make it true.

Like I said, if you can prove it or present reasonable evidence, I'll shut the fukk up.

Its not really being an industry plant because Kendrick was doing his thing with Jay Rock, and building his rep for being nice, before 2011. A plant to me is nikkas who don't have any props in the streets, and get signed off of knowing someone. They didn't prove their ranking over the years, and pay dues. Its nothing new, rappers been talking about these nikkas.

Kendrick ain't no industry plant. The label just did that because that was the era of being independent was cool since a lot of people were hating major labels because of 360 deals. It was just going along with the tide, and making sure the money keeps coming in. They do this all the time, look at each era, and you will see this.

Looking forward to all the Kendrick stans who will try to deflect this ether. No one's saying you can't like Kendrick. Just accept that he's a plant and move on.

:ehh:

fair point.

However, it's a different era. I get what you're saying but your definition of a plant only applies to the 80s/90s when hip hop was more underground. And it was a really big deal to be signed.

Now people get signed all the time. It's not a big deal in terms of "yo, you selected THAT nikka to rep hip hop or my hood? huh? I'm out here in the streets really doin it, living the life, battlin... and you're gonna bypass me for this no-name?"

Those were last decades' problems.

The problems of this decade are fake buzz. "So and so is really the dude right now. He got x city on lock. On his own." Meanwhile, dude's been signed from time! Using major label resources to pretend he's organic.

Same fake bullshyt as before, but a different twist now.

I just linked a video. Listen to the song, it explains what a "plant" is.

Nah, it never changes. Its just a different face now but, the essence is still the same. Your example is not what I meant. It had nothing to do with balling, and repping your hood, it was about someone being a real hip hop head meaning did they come up in the ranks with other people who also love making music. If no one heard of you but you are all over the place, you are an industry plant. You was made to look like you earned your spot, and fame you are getting, when its false.

By definition Asap Rocky could be considered a plant because he just put out one to two mixtapes, and got hot, then signed a $3 million dollar deal. Do you know how rare that is? He wasn't selling music big time, or even getting millions of views on YouTube to garner that budget. I still like him but, Asap is really the "industry plant" but, I like his artistry when its done right, so in his case I turn an eye. If he was like the rest in the past, he would get dumped to the garbage for being a plant.

An "industry plant" is just another term for a fake musician. If this was rock and roll, they would call him a poser. Each genre of music deals with this, not just hip hop. Even DJs go through this, I know I did:scust:
