That's how it is in Hollywood and really the acting world in general for black people and to a lesser degree other ethnicities. Once casting directors feel you're great in a particular role, that's all they will want to cast you with in the future. Very rarely do actors or actresses get to show off their full acting range. It's got to be a difficult position to be in for an actor knowing you're great at specific role, knowing you're going to get called to play that role a lot, but will never get the chance to be more than that in a film.
