I wasnt born, but the inspiration of this thread is a tweet I saw from some of my favorite producers

Alotta y’all way 2 young to remember but in the 80s CRACK was the cool new drug to do just like Molly is now.

thats sad to think a bunch of teens/college students were using coke/crack casually not knowing it would become one of America's most addictive and dangerous drugs...

what yall think?..did users really have no clue about the drug's danger?

Well the culture glorified crack back then. This is why black males for a long time were the most likely to SELL drugs yet the least likely to USE drugs. A lot of blacks had that one uncle that they saw strung out on crack and thought "damn. that won't be me."

Slowly blacks are being programmed to get back into crack. In the 1990s it started with weed. In the 2000's it became different types of weed, kush and lean. In the 2010s it is now "molly". In the 2020s watch people make songs talking about "smoked some crack. I'm sweatin." or "Hey hey hey hey. Smoke crack everyday." Call me crazy but I know what's coming.

the popularity of crack was probably more attributed to it giving a super intense and effective high and the high possibility of being addicted after that one hit .

Coke was the drug of choice, its just that not everyone could afford coke. So when crack came out, it was promoted as affordable coke for all income levels.

rich and famous people were freebasing powder cocaine (the more expensive more time-consuming more dangerous form of crack cocaine) since the early 70's including many of rap's biggest stars and also huge stars in the white rock n' roll community.
