Ok so here my track by track review of the "The Lost DR Files" album by OFTB
1. Intro: Just the members talking bout the recent discovery of their unreleased material. Cool idea
2. Better Dayz: My favorite song on here, this is almost making me tear up right now
The beat is just beautiful, evokes a really really melancholic atmosphere
Pac, Syke, and OFTB all spit some great real life shyt
3. That Was Then, This Is Now: Another dope track, great bumpin old school beat. The OFTB members all spit dope, agressive verses. Kurupt spits a dope verse too as well as Snoop whos more laidback vibe mashes kinda well with the more agressive other artists.
4. I Come Up Hard: A very laidback joint, with some smooth singing on the hook. Very chill beat and the OFTB members all come dope here, great track to cruise around to in the summer time
5. World Wide/ Time After Time which is the original title : Another very smooth song, laid back production and dope features from 2Pac & Kadafi as well as dope performances by OFTB. Unfortunately Kurupt is just on the hook, wouldve liked to hear him rap over this as well.
6. Check Ya Hood: This song also doesnt dissappoint, another funky beat with all members spitting some social commentary on here and underrated death row vocalist jewell adding some soulful hook. 6 songs in and all of them are dope
7. I Trust Nobody: After a couple of more laidback joints, on this song the beat is more menacing & aggressive. Still it contains some dope instrumentation during the hook especially which is catchy af. The rap parts are all pretty dope, nice lil song.
8. Still A Mystery To Me: Another dope song, nice piano driven beat and some nice synths. very laidback & smooth again. Featured on this are Kurupt & Tha Outlawz. Especially Kurupt is dope on this, but everyone else here spits some real, introspective shyt paying tribute to all the dead people they lost.
9. Project kids: On this song they actually feature some young kids from their hood. The beat is pretty cool & upbeat, and the OFTB members are dope as usual. Some of the kids are actually pretty good on the mic, but especially the hook gets annoying pretty quickly.
10. Im On One: From the beginning this song reminds me of BTNH, beat is dope as hell with a great synth line and a smooth laidback vibe. The performances are all dope as fukk, nothing more to say here. Love the btnh esque "chanting" on this as well.
11. Ladies Night: Very chill, funky song. OFTB perform dope again, hook is catchy as well. Nice lil song
12. Doin It At The Spot: After an awakward af sex skit, the song itself is very laidback & relaxing. Nothing special overall, but cool to listen to every now & then. Everyones performance is on point again. Also features Big Pimpin talking some game.
13. Lost Souls: Dope song, the beat is kinda sinsiter, very cool. The verses are absolutely on point again. Has that old school death row sound to it. The hook is also dope.
14. Sooner Or Later: Another very dope beat, very atmospheric. They talk some real life shyt here, spitting great verses bout their struggles and how the times will change.
15. So Long: Featured on this is MC Hammer who was also on death row for a short time. Great song, the beat is beautiful and the topic is fitting perfectly, talking bout the time when they will meet their dead homies & loved ones again. My second favorite song on here.
Overall rating:
I definetely recommend y'all to listen to this album. OFTB are very dope rappers, the production on here is classic ld school death row sound and the features are all on point as well . Didnt have to skip one song on this
