Marvel TV Rumors: Hayley Atwell May Have Signed onto Agent Carter and the Guardians of the Galaxy Could Get Animated
More possibilities are swirling for Marvel's TV future.

by Jared Larson January 3, 2014

Rumors abounded this week about more pieces of Marvel's sizable small screen invasion.

First up, the Peggy Carter series may be closer to reality, with Hayley Atwell reprising her role. You may remember Peggy Carter as the spunky heroine and love interest from Captain America: The First Avenger. Though almost nothing is known about the potential series so far, it's safe to assume that it will be set in the wake of Captain America's disappearance, as established in the Agent Carter short on the Iron Man 3 Blu-ray.

A source told British tabloid news site Mirror Online that Atwell has now signed onto the series and that it will be "Marvel’s major project of 2014, and it will be a big budget production."

While Atwell's enthusiasm about reprising the role has been established, there is no confirmation on her signing onto the Agent Carter series -- or even that such a series exists yet -- from Marvel. We reached out to Marvel in the wake of Mirror's report, who had no response.

In the second bit of "maybe" Marvel TV news, the company could be planning to launch a new Guardians of the Galaxy animated series. An "inside source" informed comicbookmovie.com that Marvel originally had trouble deciding between Guardians and another new Spider-Man cartoon, but with the Guardians movie on the way this summer, decided to go with the former -- though the Spider-Man cartoon is certainly not out of the question down the line. It's not clear if such a show would be a companion piece or successor to Ultimate Spider-Man, which is headed into its third season.

If the Guardians series proves to be true, it's almost certain it would join Marvel's other animated series on Disney XD.

Besides the already-launched live-action Marvel's Agents of SHIELD and their animated series block on Disney XD, Marvel have officially announced their ambitious plan to launch four new live-action TV series -- leading into a Defenders miniseries -- on Netflix, beginning with Daredevil in 2015.

:scusthov: As long Jeph Loeb is in charge of Marvel Television, I have NO faith in Marvel Animation.
