If something is considered a classic, does it have to be influential?

You hear people rave about MBDTF all day, about how it's this landmark of hip-hop.

Yet, when I think of classics, think of albums that changed the landscape, I think of albums that actually carried influence in music/their respective genres.

By that logic, we would have had a bunch of grandiose hip-hop epics coming out of the woodwork in the wake of MBDTF. But that's not what we got. Instead, we got the rise of trap music and internet rappers. An album like Flockaveli carried a more influential sound than MBDTF did, that you can still see the effects of today.

Flockaveli >>>>>>>>MBDTF:umad:

Music been getting worse by the day, it's like these people need albums to call classic so they will be part of something.
