2 theories/possibilities
1. Dr. Dre may of been spreading himself thin by giving him and his team's best work to build the careers of 50 Cent, Game, etc.
2. Dr. Dre created some gems the world hadn't heard and he has them in a vault
Reason it never happened though was because of Game and 50 splitting up the Dre family tree
We would've had an Up In Smoke Tour 2 featuring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Eminem, 50 Cent, The Game, G-Unit
Dr. Dre's production team at the time was somewhat like a band - you has guys who were skilled enough to take things into their own viable careers as producers; Mike Elizondo on bass, Scott Storch on keys

In 2006, the album possibly would've sounded like what he gave Jay, Busta, Nas, and Snoop for their albums that dropped in '06. Some of the production was dope, but he would've been criticized heavily for it. For example, Snoop's "Boss's Life" features Akon and the video version features Nate Dogg. Had that been a song on Detox and the album version featured Akon and the video version featured Nate Dogg, the backlash would've been crazy. Snoop's "Imagine" was a record considered for Detox.

I'm still dissappointed that we just got that wack ass compton album instead of the real follow up.
I bet dre got like 3 albums worth of classic material in his vault but just wont release it. One if his main mistakes is that he gave away CLASSIC beats like for example "Old Times Sake" to whack ass eminem instead of using them for his own album.

The proper follow-up had just as much potential to be far worse than Compton. "I Need A Doctor" was a single that actually took off even though fans hated it. There was also the unfinished "Under Pressure", which was supposed to be the first single.
I personally think Relapse was pretty much what Detox was going to be, but he ended up giving the beats to Eminem. When "Crack A Bottle" leaked, it was initially thought to be the first single from Detox.
westside story was the last great beat that dre released, everything since then was laklustre. Especially the shyt he produced around 05 and 06.

It was a Dre/Cube track before that for Helter Shelter. The DPG version has never been released either.
