I feel the older generation of Blacks post MLK aren't criticized enough.

On the coli and in the '"Real World" I feel like Black teens as well as young Black adults (say 25 and under) are getting an unfair amount of the blame when it comes to the woes of the Black American community.

I know this may be unavoidable but I don't intend for this to be a divisive thread that puts young Blacks against older. I understand that if we are to succeed than we must come together for the sake of us all. This thread is meant as a bit of constructive criticism and a little food for thought.

Now with that being said.

Older Black Americans really seem to love criticizing younger Blacks over the superficial. Fashion choices, taste in music etc. Are dismissive of our political presence. Downplaying movements such as "hands up don't shoot" and "Black lives matter". as simple "twitter activism" even though there are plenty young folks on the streets rather than behind a keyboard and mouse.

Need I remind you that my generation was raised by yours? If you are unhappy with the direction young Blacks are taking our culture shouldn't the blame start with the person in the mirror? I mean the past generations thinks sitting down and speaking with their children is some sign of weakness. That savagely and I mean savagely brutalizing your child is an acceptable punishment for every little thing your kid does. And you wonder why my peers grow up "hoemotional" when they were never taught to deal with their issues without violence or violent language?

You know how many older Blacks are intentionally passing down self hate to their own lineage? Where did you think we learned to "c00n" from. White media is partially to blame but not 100%. How many of us heard an older Black person as a youth go on about "nikkas can't have nothing" or "can't take care of nothing" or "nikkas ain't shyt" or "can't be on time" etc. How many of hear that now? Or say that ourselves now?

Many older Blacks act like going to church and and being a devout believer actually accomplishes something for us as a group.

Surely others feel similar to me on this topic. My generation is not perfect but none are.

My generation wouldn't be where we are without the work of past generations but it's the present generations job to build on top of what the past did. So why not believe in us?

We're all in this together.

(I'm a little sick so hopeful my post makes sense)

I will take it a step further in stating that older Black middle class elites and politicians that have actively co-opted and assisted American Apartheid are not criticized enough, which is why people try and shame the Black rebels in Baltimore for rebelling against a black political regime that has made them the 6th poorest city in the country. Of course the Black elites don't deserve the majority of the blame for white supremacy, but they have a historical hand in facilitating oppression

This is fair. I talk with my mother about this stuff sometimes. For instance she was complaining that men her age were not mentoring the youth. I'm talking guys that make up the black business ownership in my area. They aren't involved at all and they all moved out to the burbs leaving us stranded with no out. That needs to end with us. If we get a business popping. We need to stay our black asses in the hood and get money circulating. They dropped the ball as a generation raising us millennials. We can't make those mistakes we gotta evolve so our kids aren't saying the same of us in 20 years.

There's been a disconnect between elders and the youth. The elders don't realize it was up to them on how future relationships would be dictated. Because they have given up and didn't guide like they were supposed to, the youth are obviously left to their own devices. A wayward child can't be blamed for failure of the parent.

Cosign the bolded. If by 2050 black America haven't made any progress then that means my generation failed them.

Drugs were an excuse for weak minded people to use for their failure. If you used crack you failed your people no if ands or buts about it.

Weak minded people? I don't know if you black american (I'm not but it's absolutely identical here in London's black community) but even if you are, you can't sympathize and empathize with something you have no experience with. It's called being under constant oppression and hopelessness, not weak minded.

Quit making excuses for weak minded people who turned to drug use. drugs exploited weak people and destroyed communities. You have millions of blacks who did not turn to drig use who lived in those same communities. The weak will power of those peoples created the illness point blank.

I make no excuses. It's called being victim of circumstance. I didn't say every black person turned to drug use, but if there's something that you can make money off and you haven't had money for so long then it's a likely chance you would be on the nearest corner trying to get money cos you can't get no job.

Just so I can put this into a context, are you black?

Selling dope and not building = weak
Turning to drugs = weak

If dudes were selling dope and turning around and using that capital to start businesses i cant even trip, but the cats who were selling dope just to trick off and people who turned to drugs all are disgraces. Im probably the blackest person on here and i show no sympathy on those who failed our generation. If people were not weak then it wouldnt have mattered of drugs being funneled into communities because people wouldnt have rocked with it. Point blank it was the weak people who took the bait.

So what I'm getting is that if I sold dope and decided to open a grocery store and serve my community, you wouldn't say a peep? You have no sympathy for those who failed out generation, however their previous generation also were using drugs. They way I view it, it's actually quite cold the way you're going about it and in my OPINION you refuse to view this problem on all perspectives. The last question I have for you is, why are these "weak people" weak?

There were weak people in every generation. The people in our generation who have turning up as a priotity over nation building are weak disgraces also. Being weak isnt a new thing, there were weak people on the first slave ship to land in the Americas, there were weak people who were part of the greatest African kingdoms. I dont have sympthy for weak people, they need to be held accountable for their errors just like every other group holds their weak people accountable. When getting drunk and high becomes a priority over being a productive human you are worthless. Drugs are not a necessity to live as a human, drugs are an escape for weak people who cannot handle reality.
