i mean seriously :patrice:

big (with the help and assistance of diddy) could make a song about any damn thing and it not seem out of character for him

he was just a natural at rappin' and he could make club tracks, storytellin' tracks, introspective tracks, street tracks etc... it didn't matter, it was like biggie mastered what it took to make any type of track :whew:

i'm listenin' to born again for the first time since the year 2000 and i was reminded of big even doin' his thing on a mannie fresh beat :damn: it was like big could rhyme over anythin' and make it look like it was nothin' :win:

a lot of guys (jay z, eminem, lil wayne, kanye west, drake --- :russ:, i know but i can't deny some people really think he is currently one of the best for whatever reason :mindblown:) but honestly, do you really think any of those guys' best music are seein' the outstandin' quality of work that biggie put out from 94' to 97' :aicmon:

big was just too great :mjcry:

Pun. Just in terms of every single thing you mentioned. You can't get me to choose who's better. If I had to choose whose catalog it'd be BIG's but yeah Pun was as NICE. He made every type of song you can think of and they were great.

Oh, I forgot Pun, that might be the only 1 that's as nice on the mic as Big after he passed, I forgot Pun cause they overlapped since he was on shyt in 95 etc.

The only 1 from the names that you mentioned that's even in BIg's league on the mic to me is Jay, even so on the mic Big is better.

you know what, he might be the only one who i would've say might've been :ohhh:

great choice man, real great choice :myman:
yea people forget how insane mos def was......maybe the most versatile MC ever. dude could make ANY type of track. hard, smooth....some storytelling...shyt for the ladies. hit you with some hard ass battle raps that will have you like :damn:, then drop some thought provoking shyt that leaves you :wow:.....dude's wordplay and rhyme schemes were ridiculous. dude was crazy gifted....it's a shame he decided to focus on acting. his 2nd verse on mathematics...no bullshyt....might just be the single greatest verse in hip hop history.

Yo, it's one universal law but two sides to every story
Three strikes and you be in for life, manditory
Four MC's murdered in the last four years
I ain't tryin to be the fifth one, the millenium is here
Yo it's 6 Million Ways to Die, from the seven deadly thrills
Eight-year olds gettin found with 9 mill's
It's 10 P.M., where your seeds at? What's the deal
He on the hill puffin krill to keep they belly filled
Light in the ass with heavy steel, sights on the pretty shyt in life
Young soldiers tryin to earn they next stripe
When the average minimum wage is $5.15
You best believe you gotta find a new ground to get cream
The white unemployment rate, is nearly more than triple for black
so frontliners got they gun in your back
Bubblin crack, jewel theft and robbery to combat poverty
and end up in the global jail economy
Stiffer stipulations attached to each sentence
Budget cutbacks but increased police presence
And even if you get out of prison still livin
join the other five million under state supervision
This is business, no faces just lines and statistics
from your phone, your zip code, to S-S-I digits
The system break man child and women into figures
Two columns for who is, and who ain't nikkaz
Numbers is hardly real and they never have feelings
but you push too hard, even numbers got limits
Why did one straw break the camel's back? Here's the secret:
the million other straws underneath it - it's all mathematics

man, lemme tell you when black on both sides first got released i could not stop listenin' that album

i'd already knew of mos def from de la soul's stakes is high album ("big brother beat" track) and had the blackstar album but man, black on both sides on another level imo

it was like the best thing i'd heard probably since biggie because i can remember at that time not really feelin' a lot of the shyt that was comin' out but mos stuck out like a sore thumb among so much "rap and bullshyt" to quote gza; at that time

as for mathematics, yeah that verse is excellent. i even made a thread on it a while back, check it out :myman:
