Has anyone been listening to the new 'Serial' podcast by the folks who brought us 'This American Life' :lupe:

Serial is a new podcast from the creators of This American Life, hosted by Sarah Koenig. Serial will follow one story - a true story - over the course of a whole season. We'll follow the plot and characters wherever they take us and we won’t know what happens at the end of the story until we get there, not long before you get there with us. Each week we'll bring you the latest chapter, so it's important to listen in order, starting with Episode1. If you need help knowing how podcasts work and how you get one

It's a true story about the murder of a high school student, Hae Min Lee, back in 1999. The police eventually arrest and convict her ex boyfriend, Adnan Syed, of the murder and this was mostly based on the testimony of a friend, named Jay, who said he helped Adnan bury her.

On one hand the story seems open and shut but there's a looot of questions like why didn't his lawyer ever follow up with the witness who said she saw Adnan in the library on the date and time the police say Hae was murdered? Also, this same lawyer was disbarred for her shoddy work and a friend thinks she threw the case to make more money off the appeal

shyt is like listening to a movie :lupe:

do y'all think he did it ?

Just started listening. :whew:

I just went through all five episodes yesterday. After listening I was going to start this thread myself.

So what do you think? I am convinced Jay is a lying prick. I think Adnan is innocent but I know the podcast is set up to make you think that. Probably both were involved and there is some bombshell about to drop in the next couple episodes about a third person's involvement.

If you noticed, the narrator said that there is this really important phone call with the girl in Silver Springs. Maybe she had beef with Hae?

yep I've been listening.

I think Jay is lying in the sense he is lying to minimize his involvement. I think Anand did it but Jay was involved more than he wants to admit.

I feel like the story illustrates many problems with the justice system.

- Adnan was convicted based on one witness' (not even a witness to the murder) inconsistent testimony and an unproven cell phone record methodology that has now been shown to be unreliable. :leostare:

- There is no evidence linking Adnan to the crime. :lupe:

- Adnan's lawyer is found to be a crook and is disbarred from practicing law after this case, yet there is no retrial. :rudy: The lawyer clearly botched crucial aspects of the case and yet, there is no mistrial or retrial. :why:

- Asia signs an affidavit which gives the defendant an alibi, then retracts it and the judge doesn't allow her affidavit to be legally binding.

I am no lawyer and I'm not saying that this means Adnan is innocent but have we not reached reasonable doubt??

Justice system is a mess.

Tell me about it.

So one dude can walk into a police station blame someone else and it's automatically him ?!

Jay was a snake and the ultimate slime. He pulled the ultimate trick. I think Jay did it ALL by himself

I think adnan might have paid Jay to do it. I actually don't think Adnan was there, I think he let Jay help him do it and paid him.

Jay knew they were closing in and decided to drop the ball and play the role of the 'innocent friend'

It would perfectly explain why Jay had his phone and so much information.

WHY would u help an 'acquintance' bury a dead body and kill someone for nothing ?! :dahell:

Adnan paid him. It's clear, especially after last episode. If Adnans phone wasn't involved I'd say Jay did it all but thats only way I can explain Jay having adnans phone.

Jay is WOAT. :snoop: if he had never gone into the station nothing would have happened.

Adnans a dikk head too, he fukked up his life over some high school p*ssy.

Ofcourse he is lying.

Adnan ain't slick. Why would someone accuse you of murder and you're all cool on some 'yh man...i dunno why he said that man...' :comeon:

ma dude, you paid the kid and it came back in ya face and now he can't say anything cos he stuck with the 'i dont know jay i dont know what i did that day' story. too long.

As for that Asia broad @knowmadd her part was odd man.

The lawyer was a crook and it makes me wonder how many lawyers botch cases for appeal money.

Yeah, the kid on the track team said Jay would pick Adnan up from track practice regularly. Adnan can't act like he and Jay aren't good friends.

ahh first post.
Anyways, I think theraflu is right, Adnan knows way more than he's letting on. Jay seems like a sociopath imo. I think it was Adnan's idea to kill Hae and he payed Jay to do it. But remember, Jay was dating Adnan's close friend stephanie, and it was her birthday, so Adnan lent jay his car to buy her a gift.

How could Hae go missing Adnan never call her or page her once to see if she was okay? Even after he found out she was missing, he never called once?? That's suspicious.

And the Nisha call? Every other call on Adnan's phone between 2 and 5 o'clock on the "day of the murder" was a call to one of Jay's friend's except this one? Are Jay and Nisha lying about not knowing each other or was Adnan with Jay?
