Been meaning to post this for a minute and I have seen this come up a lot around here lately so here is IMO the easiest way to clean up your computer, all these apps are free and are good to have on your computer or USB even just in case:

1. AVG for free

http://download.cnet.com/AVG-AntiVirus-Free-2014/3000-2239_4-10320142.html

AVG is anti virus, it has active protection on your computer, email, & browser, which means it doesn't wait until you tell it to run to protect you it protects 24/7, easy on your computer too as far as resources

2. Malwarebytes anti malware

https://www.malwarebytes.org/downloads/

Best Malware scanner best of its kind, make sure you run this at least once a month and do all the proper updates to it

3. Spybot Search and Destroy

http://download.cnet.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10122137.html

Anti spyware tool, i run this every two months or so , again another one that is constantly getting updated

4. CC Cleaner

https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download

If you ever need to do a quick history/registry cleaning of your computer this is the best tool out, very lightweight program i run this every 2-3 months

5. Hijack this

http://download.cnet.com/Trend-Micro-HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10227353.html

I use this program when people tell me there computer is really having issue and running the other programs i mentioned aren't working, this scans your system and then provides you with a log of what is causing the problem, it will create text file which them you can post on here http://www.hijackthis.de/ This website will very plainly tell you what to keep and what to delete.

These programs are the only thing you need. If your computer is having issues with malware, spyware and viruses what you should do is disconnect it from the internet and run all of these programs in the order i just posted them in. This will take a while especially if your computer is severely infected. #1 & #2 each could take up to 45 min to.

I also highly recommend to run this TWO times back to back if your computer is crippled really bad

I have not come across a computer i could not clean using these programs in this order.

Webroot Antivirus with malwarebytes>>>

Adblock Plus and a script blocker if you're watching porn or going on weird sites with your browser but you should just use your phone or tablet for that.

Make sure you know where your emails are coming from. Always use an anti virus with email and Web protection.

Don't download cracked applications. If you can't afford it find a free alternative because you can never trust the source of those keygens and serial numbers.

Props on this it's funny cause installing the apps I said and doing what you said are things I do automatically now and I always assume others do too

100% on point. I have those exact programs and NEVER have a problem I usually go years between having any issue with any of my computers. I switch between AVG and Avast, if I put on a new OS or get a new computer, I'll just pick one, they're pretty interchangeable. Malwarebytges, AVG/Avast (or Norton, if you can get it free), CCleaner, and Spybot are constants. I also use Adblock on Firefox.

I'm the go-to computer person in my network of friends/family, when I set up people this is how I do it. I tell them to set the automatic update/run programs that have that feature, do Spybot once a month, and update MWB's before clicking off at night (takes literally 2 seconds). The ones who don't do this always end up calling me asking me to fix their computers and the real idiots just end up buying another one rather than fixing it. :scusthov:I stopped doing it though, if you're not going to listen, I'm not going to waste my time. Same with network/wireless advice.

My mom's friend a few months ago was talkin bout someone was gonna charge her "only" $125 to clean her laptop :heh:
I told her to bring it to mean all it had was some basic malware from her kid downloading math games, malware malbytes took care of it in 20 min

I prefer Avast Antivirus over AVG, Yes Malwarebytes is good and Ccleaner is good. I only use Spybot 1.6.2 tho newer version is trash

Also add Super Antispyware to that list and Hitman pro kickstart
