I was looking at some old Wrestlemania clips during the "Hogan Era" and seeing how shytty the undercards were but still wondering why WWE was still popular so i decided to finally look up "PPV Wrestling Buyrates" and i decided to make a bar graph of all of the Wrestlemania buy rates from WM 1 - 29
here is a list all of the matches in wrestlemania history and buyrates, etc

I created a Bar Graph with a combination of all the sites i scanned for accurate wm buyrates (might have to zoom in :( )

let the speculation on why people didnt order events and bad buy rates begin

The point of this thread is for you to think of some of the wrestlemanias you may have liked as a kid and see how many people ACTUALLY ordered the ppv and where it ranks each year and why you may think there was an increase and decrease

things to remember while viewing

1. Back in the early 80s, WWE didnt have RAW,Smackdown, or a legit 12 month ppv schedule so everyone ordered wrestlemania on closed circuit tv just to get their Hogan fix and then later came more ppvs but they only have 4 ppvs per season for the longest time (and the prices were likely way cheaper)

2. Hogan left the company around "WM 10" and stopped being a permanent main eventer, that welcomed in the "HBK, Diesel, Undertaker, Bret Hart" years

3. Attitude Era begins and ends at WM 14-17

4. Cena era started at WM 21

fukk, didn't realise 19 was so low. Don't know what the reason was, as that card was stacked and it was one of the piffest Mania's ever :manny:

That was one that stunned me but i was looking at Youtube videos and someone made a good point bout Wrestlemania 19 and the end of attitude era

dude said something like

"Although Wrestlemania 19 was stacked with big name wrestlers like rock, austin, angle, hogan, lesnar, etc. The Shock view crowd (jerry springer type fans) finally gave up on WWE by 2003 so only loyal fans or new "ruthless agression" fans ordered that ppv but that mass wave of "NC-17 fans" left by then and took the giant buyrates with them

Yeah, I just remember having Adelphia at the time and being able to order it while some of my people's couldn't because they still had old boxes.

That card had too many draws on it though for it to fail for any other reason.

The buyrates of today are factoring in Worldwide buys while the buyrates from Hogan era through Attitude Era are strictly domestic. PPV is still relatively new to some European countries and even in the UK most PPVs are still broadcast on their version of cable.

Also during the Hogan era most people in the United States didn't have PPV.

Then you have to factor in population growth.

Sorry but these graphs don't really tell the story. They aren't adjusted for many factors.

That's why I consider WM 17 the real GOAT PPV buyrate because it almost made 1 million buys domestically, which is almost impossible for wrestling. Technically, WMs 21, 23, 24, 27, 28, and 29 made 1 million buys, but that with worldwide buys included. They really only made close to 600 million domestically, which is normal number post-Attitude Era.
