When Gotham ended its second season, an entire busload of new criminals had been released upon the city. And when season 3 picks up, one of the criminals roaming the streets is none other than the Mad Hatter.

EW has an exclusive first look at the Hatter (above), played by The Walking Dead’s Benedict Samuel. Otherwise known as Jervis Tech, the Hatter is described as “a talented hypnotist teetering on the edge of madness. He arrives in Gotham with an unwavering desire to find his sister, Alice, a young woman who went missing in the city years ago. It is anyone’s guess just how far down the rabbit hole he’s willing to go in order to find her.”

Samuel, who is a season regular in season 3, will first appear in episode 3.

Gotham returns Monday, Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. ET on Fox. Watch a season 3 trailer here.

Just got hip to Gotham...I write off most fox programs due to perceived bigotry...but I bumped into it on Netflix and it is straight CRACK...I can't believe some people hate on this show...must admit the season 2 finally was a bit choppy....but the character and story development has been great.
