Open Your Eyes is the spanish flick that Vanilla Sky is based on. It's much better IMO.

man Ive read all the explanations online, on imdb the one posted in SOHH and random post on forums and I never understand what the hell is going on

Just make sure you watch the directors cut and read the little book parts. It explains all about the tangent universe, the "artifact"(the plane engine) and other shyt. Basically Donnie has to die to SAVE the original universe from which the unstable tangent universe arose.

also there is an independent movie about some guys who discover a way to go back in time or to the future

it was a true mindfukk

how much better? caus ei just read the synopsis and its pretty much the same movie it looks like, with penelope cruz to boot. ima check it tho
