"somebody has to get their hands dirty for the sake of Mexico..and if that means moving drugs...well then..let's move em!" - Amado Carrilo
"Carillo was a nationalist....he felt that his enterprise was beneficial to the state of the Mexican economy..he cultivated the military and maintained diplomatic relations with high level government officals in Mexico City..he was a genius"
"Carillo was famous for the idea that if a "load" is lost..you kill everybody connected with it..this way you get the Trader"
He was called "El Señor de los Cielos" (The Lord of the Skies) for his pioneering use of over 27 private Boeing 727 jet airliners to transport Colombian cocaine to municipal airports and airstrips around Mexico.[9]
In the months before his death, Carrillo's business was growing exponentially: his cartel was shipping multi-ton shipments directly into Manhattan, and million dollar payments to Carrillo were seized at the El Paso-Ciudad Juárez border.
During that time, Carrillo was frequently travelling in his private jets to Cuba, Russia, and other nations in search of a safe haven.
While at the same time a hit song dedicated to his life entitled "El Señor de los Cielos" was blasting across the Mexican Airwaves.
The song one of many dedidated to the "Lord of the Skies" was as sensational and controversial as Carillos bizarre 1997 death.
Which was reportedly from anesthetic reaction after ambitious plastic surgery to disguise himself from capture but many believe it to be convinced it was murder: his doctors were abducted and tortured to death.
Apparently Carrillos extensive web of bribed government officials and perhaps unseen investors were feeling the heat.
