Froch To Ward: I'm Not Vacating, I Dare You To Travel!

Last week, the World Boxing Association ordered their 'regular' super middleweight champion Carl Froch to face the 'super' champion at 168-pounds, Andre Ward, in a rematch. The two boxers collided three years and three months ago in Atlantic City as part of the Super Six tournament final. Ward, who reportedly had a hand injury, had little trouble in winning the fight.
Froch recently vacated his IBF title because the sanctioning body ordered him to fight Matchroom stablemate James DeGale. The Nottingham boxer would be open to idea of facing Ward in a revenge bout - if Ward would travel across the ocean to the UK for the fight.
Ward has been inactive since a fall 2013 twelve round decision win over Edwin Rodriguez.
After settling some legal issues with former promoter Goossen Promotions, and signing a new deal with Roc Nation Sports, the unbeaten champion is ready to enter the ring. Froch has been out of the ring since last May's record-breaking knockout of George Groves in their Wembley rematch which drew 80,000 fans.
The WBA are giving them until the end of this month to reach a deal before a purse bid is called. Promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom is holding the City Ground for a tentative date of May 30, but Froch hopes the date is pushed back a few weeks to mid-June.
"I fought him in the US,’ Froch said to Daily Mail. ‘Now it’s only right that he comes over here. To be a truly great champion you have to box overseas. Ward needs to be forced to travel out of his comfort zone. I dare him. He will discover that I’m a very different animal here than I was that night on the Boardwalk."
"I vacated the IBF title so as not to delay James DeGale from getting his chance any longer. But I’m not giving up the WBA title. No way. I will only get back in the ring for a fight that really floats my boat,’ says Froch. ‘And when you think about it, beating Ward in Nottingham would be a fantastic way to end my career."
