Ethiopian-Israeli protest against police brutality is met with violence
This isn’t Baltimore. This is Jerusalem, on Thursday night.

Thousands of young Ethiopian Israelis demonstrated against police brutality in Jerusalem on Thursday, in a vigil that spiraled into violent clashes with police.

The protesters congregated in the afternoon under the banner: “Down with racism! A black person will not be brought down.” The protesters blocked major roads in the capital — including Highway 1, the road that links Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.

When the protest approached the Prime Minister’s Residence a few hours later, police gloves were off. Officers fired tear gas and stun grenades at the crowd, with some present reporting via social media that riot control forces had brought out the dreaded “skunk” spray, generally only used in Palestinian protests in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Some 15 protesters were reportedly injured.

Thursday’s protest came against the backdrop of a video in which a policeman was seen brutally beating an Israeli soldier of Ethiopian heritage in Holon. Ethiopian Israelis have been victims of repeated police violence in recent years.

The protesters demanded that the police officer stand trial, and called for Netanyahu’s immediate intervention. They also called for Police Commissioner Yohanan Danino’s resignation.

They didn't choose to live in Israel. They chose to live where the resources and opportunity is. Same with people in America. Nobody cares about the geographical location.

When western powers steal the wealth and resources and stock piles it in their country...naturally everyone around the world will follow.

There was a famine in the 80s engineered by the Communist Derge and Dictator Mengistu Hailemariam which targetted (Northern Ethiopia)Habesha regions harbouring opponents and rebels who were against the Derge. These includes Wollo, Beta Israel, parts of Tigray and Tigrenya. More than a million people starved to death. Thats when the Israelis in conjunction with the Americans planned to save the remaining population beta israel In secret, (As Communist Ethiopia was under the protection of the Soviets and Fidel castro). Most consider the famine of the 80s as an act of genocide by the Communist regime to silent opposing regions. Alot of Tigrinyas (Eritreans) died aswell. They were apart of Ethiopia untill 1993. Most Habeshas lost relatives in the civil wars and genocide. Many westerners dont even realise that the famine of the 80s was ochestrated by the government. Most of the food aid were left rottingin government warehouses while millions starved. In certain parts of the country, there was even record grain yields. The beta Israelis/falahsa jews had no choice in migrating to Israel.
