Do graphics even matter?

So, I've been the biggest graphics snob forever. I want all ultra everything at super high resolutions.

Then something changed. I don't care about graphics anymore. I'm playing my 3ds and having fun. I'm playing my Wii U and having more fun than my ps4, pc, or x1.

Why do we care about graphics so much (or was it just me )?

It seems this generation is all about graphics. 1080p this, 1080p that. Nah brehs, that shyt don't matter. It's all about the fun factor.

And yes, I know this is extremely hypocritical of me, but I think I've had an epiphany or some shyt.

Do graphics really matter in the grand scheme of things?

I think it also depends what the game is trying to do. good graphics can definitely help with 'immersion'

I do prefer 1080p though. for me that's not so much about 'graphics', but rather just how crisp the game looks running at native resolution (or higher). similar to how I prefer 60fps because that's my refresh rate

I want graphics that can properly immerse me into the world that the dev strives to create. Often times a game with bad graphics just won't draw me in and that creates a problem for me. I can honestly say that Driveclub for example immerses me like no other because the graphics in motion at times create a feeling that just wouldn't be there had the graphics been compromised.

This just adds that feeling when playing.
Edit: Great artstyle + great graphics=Immersion.
Bad artstyle + great graphics=
bad graphics = Needs other things to redeem itself.

Of course gameplay/challenge are always the most important things. Which is why stuff like Spelunky, Guacamelee and Hotline Miami is to me and a lot of the new AAA stuff is .

It matters to a point but people taking it too far. Last year a squad of PC gamers randomly came out of nowhere and got the whole gaming community acting like bytches. Everywhere everyone always talking about 4k/1080p/60fps every got damn time.

nobody wants to go back to Atari graphics, but there's been plenty of great games on Nintendo you could pick up and play today.. and it's not because of the graphics. ill take great gameplay over cutting edge graphics anyday

Yeah, that is why I don't understand why cats so hyped for PS4 and X1. Its just prettier graphics. I want developers to use their fukking imaginations again and design something artistic to last through the ages.
