Acquiring Lucasfilm and Marvel were just two minor steps in Disney’s grand plan to eventually own everything you love and control your life as Entertainment Overlord Supreme of the Planet Earth. But to be fair, they are a benevolent god. A caring god. A god that wants to make its riches available to you, should you want to indulge yourself. So prepare thyself: TV channels based entire on Marvel and Star Wars content may be coming.

Like so much exciting movie news, this revelation came during an investors conference call (via Daily Finance). Disney CEO Bob Iger was asked about whether or not the company was looking into starting its own streaming service and he dropped this very interesting collection of words that form a very interesting sentence:

We have said that with these channels and these brands — ESPN, ABC, Disney, maybe even down the road something related to Star Wars and Marvel — we do have an ability as a company to take product, specifically filmed entertainment, television, movies, directly to consumers.

And that’s it, really. Iger didn’t elaborate and that article only makes educated guesses about what this could mean.

This is the kind of project that would make sense in about, oh, five years. By then, the Marvel Cinematic Universe would consist of about 20 movies, two TV live-action TV shows and a handful of animated series. Meanwhile, Star Wars will have about 10 movies and several animated shows, including Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars: The Clone Wars. That’s not a ton of content, but that’s enough to create niche channels that fans will seek out just to have on in the background while they do chores and write articles about vague corporate statements from CEOs. If they’re streaming, that’s all the better! You’ll have hours and hours of content to choose from in this hypothetical nerd buffet.

Or Disney could just launch a single subscription streaming service that includes Marvel and Lucasfilm and Pixar and the entire animated catalog dating back to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. That would be the work of a truly benevolent god, indeed

This could be dope if they get more animated content. It'd be dope for them to have a 90s block and just replay their 90s cartoons for Marvel...with Star Wars tho...I guess you're playing 6 movies, clone wars, rebels and..?

I'm kinda apprehensive about this...

Could give a fukk about Star Wars, but Marvel (Disney) stuff is extremely hit or miss, and if this channel gets any original programming the budget probably won't be enough to do the source material justice.

They should create a Deadpool animated series. Easily one of the most entertaining Marvel characters. Dont understand how they didnt create one yet

Yea.... I'm kinda curious about this too..... like is there really enough interesting content backlogged to even make a Star Wars channel?

I mean Marvel got cartoons for years.....
