What did people think of this album? I personally love it and always have for the flavour, wordplay, flows, even the production cause of how flavourful it is. I think it's kind of underrated cause it wasn't necessarily a conventional release and he followed up with Resurrection which made a bigger mark, but what Common did on this album I think should be appreciated more, it's quite rare to get styles like this and I think we're missing a bit of this in Hip Hop right now.

Am I the only 1 who likes/rates this album? Or anyone else like it too?

I'm not saying it's classic or anything, just that to me it's a really enjoyable fun album with some classic and memorable songs and rhymes.

It's less mature content wise than most of Common's work but I don't mind that here, cause it just sounds like an MC/B-Boy experimenting with styles, flows, rhymes and flavour. You can also hear Common's intelligence and wittiness come through on the album and his MC ability which I appreciate.

I knew about Breaker 1/9 off the strength of Yo! MTV Raps but it wasn't until I spent that summer in the Chi until I really understood the appreciation for this album. ALL my cousins was playin this shyt. So many styles and variety back then, this album was dope. The beats/samples, lyrics/styles was straight comedy, bruh was talkin shyt all throughout the album. Album was fun, if you was a hip hop head or fukked with cats like Das Efx, Fu-Schnickens, then this album was for you. Personally, I had the hardcore gangsta shyt from 92 in rotation, but I also had this tape. A lotta cats who grew up on "serious Common" can't fukk with this album, but this muthafukka was BANGIN back then.

I'm feeling you man. I'm really understanding what you're saying. Because it's the type of albums with gems in terms of like the wordplay, lyrics, wittiness, punchlines, references, inflections and all that. It's a styles filled album and I find that very enjoyable, it's a very Hip Hop album. It's just kicking that shyt light hearted and having fun but still displaying skill. Yeah sometimes I wish Common could give us a bit of this again, I would LOVE Can I Borrow A Dollar 2 lol, but won't happen lol. But this shyt was so much fun, it's mad enjoyable. My favourite aspect of the album is probably the wordplay. I like the production too, it's head noddin funky/jazzy type shyt and it's quite a rare album in some senses, I haven't heard much of shyt like this that combines the styles, flavour, wordplay esq, so I'm curious as to whether there's is more. I can't think of many off the top that are very much like this. I think a factor in that might be Common's lyrical ability, wordplay and wittiness, I don't think many people can match that, those are the things that distinguish the album for me from the stuff that was going on at the time. It's like he kind of stepped it up a level in a sense by adding other dimensions and elements to that style.

What you mean? From Common or other artists back then?

Not Common, I don't feel he really has much shyt like this again, even though some aspects of Resurrection I guess. I was thinking of other artists, whether it be in sound, styles, as I really liked some of the beats and styles, so all that, but also the wordplay/wittiness aspect, that's something in particular I was looking for. For instance Ras Kass had a lot of wordplay on Soul On Ice but it didn't really have the same kind of flavour, styles, fun aspect, I was wondering if there were any releases that were similar in sound but had the wordplay. If not would settle for similar in terms of styles, flavour, sound etc. But the wordplay aspect combined with that is really what makes this album so appealing to me.

For real, that's interesting cause that's something I rarely hear. But I'm a big fan of the album, can you elaborate on why it's your favourite if possible?
Just the energy in his rhymes. You can hear the hungry and the production was classic 1992 shyt. I felt like he mellowed out way too much after this

I'm pretty big Com fan but i never liked this album except for a few tracks. I really love Charms Alarm on it.
I felt like the crazy rhyming wasn't really funny on it.
